“Was it Kael?” Adrian’s question stayed between us. I looked at him, but no words came. I expected anger. Jealousy. Maybe even disappointment. Instead, Adrian simply waited. When I still didn’t answer, he gave a small nod. “I understand.” “You do?” “I think I do.” He looked toward the path where Kael had disappeared. “You still love him.” My throat tightened. “I don’t know how to stop.” “You shouldn’t have to.” I stared at him. “What?” “You don’t owe me love because I treat you well.” His words caught me off guard. “But I told you I’d give you a chance.” “And you can.” He smiled faintly. “But I don’t want to be someone’s escape from another man.” My eyes burned. “You’re not.” “Then don’t choose me because you’re afraid of choosing him.” I looked down at my hands.
