“You knew.”
My voice barely carried across the space between us.
Kael didn’t answer. He just watched me, silent, not even bothering to deny it.
“You knew everything.”
He shrugged, almost weary. “I knew enough.”
“So tell me the rest.”
His eyes stayed on mine. I could see him searching for the right words, or maybe a way to avoid them, but I wasn’t letting him off easy this time.
“Why did you reject me?”
He just stood there.
I moved closer. “No more secrets.”
He let out a slow breath, probably bracing himself.
“There was a man named Lucien.”
The name didn’t mean anything to me. I tried to keep my voice steady. “Who is he?”
“Someone who’s after the Lost Luna.”
My heart clenched. I remembered what he’d said about the Black Veil.
“You said they were the ones hunting me.”
