“I’m not going.”
I dropped the letter onto the table.
Kael stared at me.
“You have to.”
I folded my arms.
“They summoned me like I’m some prisoner.”
“They summoned you because they know who you are.”
“Exactly. Which is why I’m not walking into their territory because they told me to.”
Adrian leaned against the wall.
“I agree with her.”
Kael looked at him.
“You would?”
“Yes.”
Adrian pushed himself away from the wall.
“Following a powerful council into their territory without knowing what they want is foolish.”
Kael’s expression hardened.
“I didn’t say we would go blindly.”
“You’re still asking her to go.”
“Because refusing could be worse.”
I looked between them.
“Both of you, stop.”
They fell silent.
I picked up the letter again.
The black-and-silver seal stared back
