Elyse pov The knock came mid-morning. I’d been sitting by the window, watching pack members train in the yard below. Trying not to think about the fact that werewolves surrounded me. That any one of them could tear me apart if they knew what I was. If Ronan hadn’t claimed me as his mate. The thought made my chest tight. His protection was the only thing keeping me alive here. And I hated depending on anyone, especially him. “Come in,” I called. Ronan entered, and the mate bond flared to life immediately. That constant pull toward him that I’d been trying to ignore for days. He looked tired. Lines around his eyes that hadn’t been there before. Like he hadn’t been sleeping well. Join the club. “My mother’s asking for you,” he said without preamble. “If you’re feeling well enough.”
