CHAPTER SEVEN Mia looked around for a place to hide, but Shilah stood there, unconcerned. She was just about to retreat when the police cars arrived in a cloud of dust. Mia stopped, knowing it would only look more suspicious if she ran. The police officers jumped out and ran to a trailer down the road, banging on the flimsy door. “Open up!” A moment later, they broke down the door and pulled out a man in an undershirt, flinging him on the ground and cuffing him. Mia stared, half-relieved, half-horrified that no one seemed to care. The girl with the hula hoop kept right on hula-hooping, as if this was an everyday occurrence. When they shoved their culprit into the back of the police car and drove away, Mia let out a sigh of relief and gradually shifted her mind back to the task at hand.
