Chapter 10

"Fine, then we'll take you to that place, Jeng Wulan! Hey, who dared to deliver? " the head of the village said gallantly. It turned out that the spirit of this old man stretched to everyone and among the dozens of people, there was no one who did not want to take him, all of them wanted to come along and were about to witness how the mighty virgin had destroyed the snake! "However, this deer must be taken to Jatikembar village first, otherwise it will be damaged immediately," said Ratnawulan. Thus, the residents of Jatikembar accompanied Ratnawulan to enter the Jatikembar village carrying the big deer. They beamed with pride as if the deer that were being carried were their prey! This joy was not unreasonable, because as usual, the warrior girl ate only a small portion, while the rest would be divided fairly! The whole population of Jatikembar, young and old, welcomed the arrival of this mighty virgin. The deer was then skinned, and several women were busy cooking the liver and tail of the deer because they knew that was Ratnawulan's only favourite. Shortly thereafter, the liver and tail of the deer, which had been cooked boiling, were served to Ratnawulan, who immediately ate them deliciously as a friend of fluffier rice. After the gauze finished eating, she then asked to be escorted to the pine forest where there was a large snake. Now those who delivered her consisted of men armed with machetes, spears and keris as many as twenty people. They walked with Ratnawulan who walked with Pak Ganjar, a grandfather who was old but still excited. Everyone lined up with gallant steps as if an army of warriors had gone to the war being led by a mighty commander. However, when they had arrived outside the pine forest, most had disappeared their valour. Even Pak Ganjar himself, the bravest man, now walked behind Ratnawulan, not always beside the warrior girl. "There it is, through the incline, it turns to the left," said one of them, the snake victim's friend. Suddenly they heard a terrifying voice echoing in the forest. This sound was like the sound of a crow roaring in a hoarse, harsh voice, but it was louder and hoarser. The voice repeated eight times and each time brought an echo and made the hairs of everyone's neck bristling. "What's that sound?" Ratnawulan asked attentively. "That's his voice, Jeng Wulan!" whispered Mr Ganjar. “I know very well, a big snake can roar like a crow. And judging from his voice earlier, he must be very big. " The village chief's voice trembled as he held back his fear. "Hmm, then, let me go alone and you dare to come closer, may follow behind me, but don't get too close." With gallant steps and not hesitating or struggling, Ratnawulan headed towards the incline, then he turned left. His twenty followers looked at one another. For a while, they did not move or make a sound, and they could not even breathe. Their eyes were fixed on Ratnawulan until the girl disappeared in a curve of the incline. "I want to come, Jeng Wulan!" suddenly Pak Ganjar whispered softly, but manly. Then with a thumping chest, this old man stepped forward, climbing the incline, his spear tightly held in his right hand. This deed brought courage to everyone's heart and now everyone is striding forward slowly up the incline, behind Pak Ganjar. When Ratnwulan arrived under the tall pine tree from which the roaring sound had been heard, he was also stunned to see a snake twisting its body around the tree branch with its head hiding behind the cypress leaves. The snake's body was not as big as what the man had said, and only its stomach was really as big as a coconut tree because it seemed that was where the corpse of the person it had swallowed was, but the rest of its body was not that big. The skin is yellowish-brown with black swirls of flowers. This is a kind of reticulated python that people rarely find and even though this person's narrative is somewhat exaggerated, Ratnawulan must admit that she had never seen a snake that big. The snake twisted the lowest branch and saw the length of the snake's body, it could be that its head hit the ground if it hung its body while using its tail to wrap around the branch and support its body. At first, Ratnawulan felt a pity to destroy this beautiful animal with its skin colour, but when his eyes fell on the swollen stomach, he remembered the human sacrifice that the snake had swallowed, so his anger arose again. "Ah, the farmer uncles are too timid." He thought, "Is it difficult to kill the snake? With an arrow, he will be destroyed. " Thinking so, she drew out an arrow, lowered the shoulder, set up her arrow and like a heroine unleashing her arrow, she aimed and pulled the bowstring. "Sr!" An arrow shot up quickly and hit the part of the snake that Ratnawulan was aiming for, which was near the neck. However, Ratnawulan's heart was shocked and astonished when he saw how her arrow did not pierce the snakeskin as she thought, but the arrow missed and stuck into the tree branch. It turned out that the snake's skin was so hard and slippery that the arrow did not work and missed. However, the arrow strike was quite a shock to the beast, being sudden the snake's body moved and now its head appeared from behind the cypress leaves. How great is the snake's head? Even though it was not as big as a barrel as told by the village people and what was terrible was its mouth and eyes. The mouth was wide and red, the tongue was sticking out and the gloves were white and pointed. Her eyes were bulging and disgusting. Ratnawulan was angry and curious to see how his first arrow had failed. She heard the muffled cries of her followers who were far behind her. It seems that the people also saw how her arrows were unsuccessful, so this mighty virgin became ashamed and exasperated.
