Eric sat down in Thomas’s chair and looked at Asher.
“What do you think? Do you think it’s a job worth taking? They offered us a lot of money for the job. But if you don’t want to do it or feel we can't handle it I will tell him no.”
Asher looked at the fire and it calmed him a little.
“If what he is telling us is true then I think it will be a hard job but we can handle it. We will just have to figure out what is causing the vengeful spirit to be taking action against the Winters International Corporation. But why are the locals trying to get rid of them so bad? And what about the rumor you heard about the woods being sacred to the locals and that The Winters International Corporation probably angered a woodland guardian?”
“I don’t know to be honest we could ask them when we get there that could be one of our first things we do, it would help to figure out what or who is causing the vengeful spirit. And we may be able to help the locals with whatever problem they are having with the company. It was probably just that a rumor. Hunters like to gossip just as much as anyone, it was probably just a guess one guy made that people started to believe and started to state as fact.”
Asher looked at his father with concern on his face
“Dad, do you think that Thomas is telling us the whole story? Or do you think he is hiding anything from us? I’m a bit worried, I don’t understand why someone would go to such lengths to stop a factory from being built. Or how they would get a Vengeful spirit to attack the building or what if it something else, like that it wasn’t a burial ground but the place of a battle or that it was a space that is sacred to an unsanctioned religion there are so many things it could be.”
Eric smiled at his son and patted him on the back.
“You worry to much Asher. There are a million things anything can be I don’t doubt he’s not telling us the whole story but they rarely do when they hire us. I’m sure the locals have their reasons for not trusting the company. It may be as simple as they don’t like change or that they are a small village that doesn’t trust big companies coming into their area. And for what might be causing the problems there are a lot of different beings, it might even be a creature or person they might have it all wrong in thinking it is a vengeful spirit it might be something a witch conjured up. Or a guardian of the woods or a creature that was sacred to the area that the government doesn’t consider as a sacred creature. But the unknown has never stopped us before. But like I said before, if you don’t want to take the job we don’t have to, we can tell him no.”
“But, what do you think is causing this? And do you think we can handle this Job dad?”
“It’s hard to say what is causing all of this for sure with just what Thomas said there are a lot of variables to this job but if that's all that's happening I do think we can handle this job we have taken on a lot of creatures and this is the family business after all, but there is a lot to question about this job and if we take it I think we should definitely speak with the locals that were protesting them building there and what that ritual was that took place on the northside of the site if we can see pictures of it or if they left it there it would answer some of the question we could figure out who did the summoning and what did they summon from the ritual. So do you want to take the job Asher or do you want to pass on it?”
Asher takes a sip of his tea and looks at the fire deep in though. The fire starts to crackle as the wood burns down and the flames start to flicker casting strange shadows on the room and out of the corner of Asher's eye he thinks he saw a person's shadow in the other room, but when he looks where he thought he saw the shadow, it's gone. He then looked back at his father.
“I think we should take the job, but we will have a lot of work ahead of us and a lot of research to do plus we will have to talk to a lot of people to figure out what is going on first before we start to search for whatever is causing all of the damage. I think before we give him an answer we should ask for pictures of the ritual that took place and ask to see proof that the government has it marked as none sacred land. There have been companies in the past that found work arounds to build on sacred land and it came back to bite them. If that happens to be the case here we shouldn’t take the job because we could get in trouble along with them if it gets found out that they lied about what they were building and we helped them destroy or harm something scared.”
“Alright I think those are fair things to ask him for he may not have pictures or the ritual but the proof that the government has the land marked as none scared land is definitely something they should be able to show us.”
Eric and Asher finished their tea and sat their cups next to the tea pot and waited for Thomas to come back.
Fifteen minutes later Thomas walked through the door.
“Have you come to a decision gentlemen or do you need more time to think or do you have any questions to ask me before you can make up your minds?”
“We have a few questions before we give you an answer. One, do you have any pictures of the ritual that took place on the northern corner of the site? Two, do you have proof that the government deemed the land as none sacred land? And three, why do you think the locals tried so hard to stop you or would be willing to go to such lengths to prevent you from building there?”
Thomas walked into the other room and returned with a vanilla colored file. Thomas handed the file to Asher. Asher look at the file on the front was written Facility 7356 in slope handwriting and at the bottom right corner there was a spot of something red. Asher opened the file and read the first page in the folder. The first page was an official government document stating that the land that the facility is located on is not protected land in any way. The next document was information from a private eye who did research into the locals and stated that he had found that they had a secret religion in the area. But he couldn’t find out what the religion was but he believed that the location of the facility is where they held their ritual for the god or goddess that they worshiped there. The next few papers are more of the private eyes report about the locals and their comings and goings. The last few are pictures of what look to be pictures of a ritual.
Asher looked at Thomas.
“Why didn’t you give this to us from the start or tell us that you have them?”
“Because you never asked for them this was just as much an interview of whether or not I want to hire you as it is if you want the job. I want to see how clever you two are and if you have the sense to ask the right question.”
“From the other room another man came out to look at the three of them.
“You pass the interview by the way. I like the way the two of you think and how you two had the sense to question everything. My name is Ivan Winters by the way.”
The man extended his hand to Eric and Eric shook it and then the man turned to Asher and extended his hand to him as well. Asher took his hand and shook it.
“To be honest I’m very excited to work with you young man I have heard many good things about you. You are said to be a talented young witch. You come highly recommended by many of our friends for your talent in seen the unseen and for figuring out what is going on supernaturally when it comes to strange occurrences and creatures.”
Alexander let go of Asher’s hand. Asher looked away from Ivan and back to the file in his hand with many questions running through his head.
