Before anything else, I want to say that I’m still new to writing. I’m simply someone who enjoys imagining different characters, mysteries, and unexpected situations, and I wanted to try turning those ideas into short stories. I know I still have a lot to learn when it comes to storytelling, grammar, pacing, and character development, but creating this story has been an exciting experience for me. Your support, patience, comments, and honest feedback would mean so much as I continue learning and improving.

Confusion began with one simple but frightening question:

What if you woke up one day and could no longer trust your own memories?

From that question came Pride—a woman trapped between terrifying nightmares, missing pieces of her past, and clues that keep leading her back to crimes she cannot remember committing. At the beginning of the story, Pride believes that the strange images inside her head are only dreams. She wants to continue living normally, go to work, and ignore the feeling that something is wrong. However, the blood on her clothes, the mysterious necklace, the disturbing phone calls, and the impossible security footage make that increasingly difficult.

The more Pride searches for answers, the less certain everything becomes.

Although Confusion is a suspense thriller involving murder, manipulation, experiments, and hidden identities, the story is also about the struggle to understand who you truly are. Pride spends most of her journey trying to separate her real personality from the version of herself that other people have created. She wants to believe she is an innocent victim who was controlled by Anna and Dr. Reyes, but each recovered memory forces her to question that belief.

Pride’s missing memories are both a prison and a form of protection. They prevent her from knowing the truth, but they also protect her from the guilt of what she has done. Whenever her memories begin to return, she is forced to face another part of herself that she may not be ready to accept. That is what makes her situation so frightening. She is not only running from Anna, Dr. Reyes, or the authorities. She is running from her own mind.

The title Confusion represents more than Pride forgetting certain events. It also represents the uncertainty surrounding every character and every clue. Pride does not know whom she can trust, but the reader cannot completely trust Pride either. Some of the things she sees may be memories. Others may be hallucinations, manipulated recordings, or lies created to control her. Even when she believes she has finally discovered the truth, another clue changes everything.

Anna and Dr. Reyes represent different forms of manipulation. Dr. Reyes uses his knowledge and authority to convince Pride that he understands her mind better than she does. He makes her dependent on him by controlling what she remembers. Anna’s manipulation is more personal. She pretends to protect Pride while secretly using her fear and confusion for her own benefit.

However, I did not want Pride to be shown only as a helpless victim. She was manipulated, but she also made choices. As the story continues, the difference between being controlled and willingly participating becomes harder to identify. That uncertainty leads to the story’s biggest question:

Did Anna and Dr. Reyes create the killer inside Pride, or did they simply reveal something that was already there?

The final episode was written to make that question even more difficult to answer. Pride defeats the two people who controlled her and successfully convinces everyone that she was their victim. From one perspective, she is a survivor who finally fought back and escaped. From another, she is a dangerous killer who has become even more skilled at hiding what she is.

The photograph and the final video suggest that Pride may have been involved in the experiment from the very beginning. She may not have been the subject at all. She may have created the experiment, planned the resets, or arranged everything that happened. It is also possible that the final message is simply another form of manipulation.

The truth is intentionally left uncertain.

I wanted the ending to remain open because giving every question a clear answer would remove the mystery at the center of the story. Readers are free to decide what they believe happened. Some may believe Pride was completely innocent before Anna and Dr. Reyes changed her. Others may believe she was always the true mastermind. Some may think there are two sides of Pride fighting for control—one frightened and remorseful, the other calm and dangerous.

There is no single interpretation that everyone must accept.

The red door at the end represents the final choice Pride must make. She can walk away from her past, or she can step through the door and discover the truth about herself. When she chooses to open it, we do not see what is waiting on the other side. We only know that she is no longer afraid.

Whether that is a hopeful or terrifying ending depends on how you understand Pride.

Writing this story allowed me to experiment with suspense, action, unreliable memories, and unexpected twists. I wanted each episode to answer one question while creating another. I also wanted ordinary places, such as an apartment or a call center, to feel unsettling. Something frightening does not always have to happen in an abandoned house or a dark forest. Sometimes fear can appear in the places where we normally feel safe.

Since I’m still new to writing, creating Confusion also taught me a lot. It showed me how important it is to connect clues, build tension, and give characters motivations beyond simply being good or evil. There are things I know I can still improve, but I’m proud that I was able to take a small idea and turn it into a complete story.

Most importantly, I want to thank everyone who stayed with Pride throughout her journey. Thank you for following her through every nightmare, forgotten memory, mysterious call, violent confrontation, and disturbing discovery. Thank you for questioning Anna, Dr. Reyes, and even Pride herself.
