"Natalie! Natalie!" Brandon's voice jolted her back to the present. "What's wrong?" He sounded irritated. "What's with you today? You keep zoning out." Natalie couldn't answer. The amusement park was one she'd visited with Sam, and every familiar sight—a ride, a booth—kept pulling her back to him. Seeing her silence, Brandon's frustration grew. "I'm sorry," she said quickly. "Didn't you want to ride the carousel? I'll go with you." That brightened him up instantly. He even plopped a goofy cartoon headband on her head, and she didn't protest. The carousel offered a photo service, and Brandon shelled out extra for more shots.
