Student Trouble Once More

1700 Words
Dora and I were at the library, looking over some books on the shelves related to monster information. At least, we were trying to, only to be reminded of how big this place was. "You sure the monster selection is in this aisle?" I asked my guide. ... After hitting the wrong aisle for the fourth time. "I... may have gotten the numbers mixed up," Dora stuttered out, looking at the sign above our aisle that stated the genre book it contains. "Not to mention, this place is an awful lot like a maze in here." I glanced at our surroundings, specifically at the other people in the room with us, and noticed how they were staring at us, the two students of Class F, with one of us being the class representative of the so-called 'Class Failure', and made a great contribution to where our class stands. To be stared at like so, as though we were a pair of foreign objects... It sent a lot of bad vibes down my spine. Even more so, when I noticed the looks they had in their eyes. A look I was familiar with, especially since I saw those expressions many times growing up... "Break period is going to end soon. We should head back," I told her. "Yeah, I guess... We can come back later to get the books," she agreed. Just as we were about to make our way out of the aisle, however, a small group of students stood in our way. Judging by the pins they had on their blazers, pins in which the figure on it would state the academic year students were in in Flammel Royal Academy, these were second-years standing before us. "Hello. How are you?" one of them asked. He who I can only assume was the ringleader of this group. "We're just fine. Thanks for asking," I simply answered, taking Dora by the hand and tried to go around the other side of the aisle, only to be blocked by more upperclassmen. "Oh, come on. Don't be so shy," the ringleader spoke. "We just want to talk to you, after all." "If you wanted to talk, you should've done so sooner. Break period is about to end, and my friend and I really need to return to our classroom." "Will it, really? Well, no matter. This conversation will be quick and easy. It won't take up too much of your time. Especially since you Class Failures don't have a class to get to." His claim made me narrow my eyes, for I was now sure this gathering was anything but peaceful. "What are you talking about? Of course we have a class," Dora spoke up. Going by the tone in her voice, I had doubts she realized what was really going on here. The ringleader held back a laugh at her words. "'Of course we have a class', she dares say... You'd think a noble like her would know where she belongs." His words made several others chuckled, as well as brought some confusion to Dora. "Look, we don't want any trouble," I said then, my bad feeling towards these guys growing by the second. "Of course you don't, little miss commoner. You know, I heard of something very interesting about you." I could only let out a sigh at such weak way of bringing up the assembly. ... That we all attended. "Yes, it's true. I was the one who rounded up my class and helped them train and-" "Not that. I am not referring to what we saw in the auditorium," the ringleader interrupted, much to my confusion. "Well, that is actually also why I wish to see you, but not the main reason." "If you're not here about what was revealed in the auditorium, then what are you here for?" Dora asked. "I was told something very interesting... from my cousin. He who was supposed to be a first-year like you guys, only to be expelled on the first day." I became confused at this. A noble student got expelled on his very first day here? More than that, that person is a first-year like Dora and me? "Ridiculous, isn't it? A noble, expelled on day one, over a farce, from what I heard. Any idea what such a farce would be?" Judging from how he was glaring at me, I knew for certain I was not going to like the next piece that will come out of his mouth. "I don't. What did he do to get himself expelled?" I asked. "It is not what he did. It is... what you did." I knew I was not going to like what he will say, but I did not expect this of all things. What I did to him? What did I do to a noble on the first day? "What the heck are you talking about? I don't know your cousin," I asked, only to receive a scoff in return. "How am I not surprised that a commoner would have this bad of a memory? Don't tell me you forgot what you did in the auditorium on your first day. All he wanted was to make himself feel comfortable, especially upon hearing that you- a mere commoner who uses the weakest magic of all- got ranked higher than him, a son of an earl. And yet what did you do? You went and humiliated him and a professor. Disrespected us who are far better than you!" When he said that, I thought back to the first day of class, and realized which noble he was referring to; the very arrogant, disrespectful boy I had almost drowned with my Water Magic. "All I did was give him a lesson on reality. It's not my fault nobles like you always think so highly of themselves, they don't consider the possibility that there are people better than them out there. Nobility or not," I scolded, much to their ire, and Dora's shock. "Levi, watch what you're saying!" she whispered in worry. "It's fine, Dora. If these people do try something, all it means is that they don't and can't accept reality. In which case, it also means they know they're so weak to do anything fair against those who are truly strong but refuse to admit it." Too much? ... Not really. Especially since I know, from my previous life, how people like them act from books and shows. Fiction it all may be, in this world? Fiction may as well be the truth. "You seem to have quite the death sentence there..." the ringleader spoke, clearly growing more and more annoyed with my words. "You know, I was going to have you admit that you were in the wrong this whole time. Admit that your class did not really get your rank in the way the headmaster claimed you did, and that you cheated your way to fifth place in your generation. I mean, really. Do you honestly think a commoner would actually get ranked that high under normal means? As my cousin said, it is clear you and your class cheated somehow." "If you can't accept the truth, that's your problem, not mine. Besides, even if I did cheat as you say, don't you think the headmaster would've known that himself and brought it to light somehow? Or are you telling me you don't think the headmaster is smart enough to realize if his own students were cheating in some way? Either way, you'd be hypocrites. Here you are, insinuating that I was the rude one, when you are all talking down on your headmaster. Who is the real rude person here? If anything, though, I respect that you have some humanity in you to not interrupt when someone is talking. Looks like there is something good about being a noble. No offense to you, Dora," I spoke, glancing at my classmate at the last part, who only stared at me with a pale face and gaping mouth. "'No offense' in what way?" she questioned. Before anything else was said between us, a brown magic circle appeared under us. "Crushing Golem!" At the ringleader's chant, a pair of large rocky hands emerged right out of the circle, each grabbing me and Dora in their hold. The summon did not stop there, as the rest of the rocky golem also emerged out of the circle, one that was better made than Marduk's back at the mock exam. "As I was saying before you had interrupted, you stinking commoner... I was planning to have you admit your lowly schemes, even if it meant brute force. However, this world is far too good to be sullied by the likes of you! A commoner who does not know how to truly show respect to those above her! The only suitable judgement for your crimes of lying, cheating, attempted murder, disrespecting your peers and seniors alike, even bringing in a monster into our precious academy! Is death! And since Class Failure is a class with 'students' who never graduate, we might as well do the academy a favor and end them as well!" I narrowed my eyes in a glare when I heard those words. What did this disgusting noble say he will do? "Wait a second! That's going too far, don't you think?!" Dora exclaimed. "Like you have any right to talk, Manichrome. You're just as bad as her. You may have mana in you, but you can't cast a single spell!" I widened my eyes at this reveal. Dora can't use magic? Before I could ponder on it any further, the golem raised us both up. "Say your prayers, you commoner and noble disgrace trash!" the ringleader shouted, commanding his golem to lower its arms, and slam us both down to the floor. Just centimeters before either of us hit the surface, though, the rocky monster suddenly ceased its movement, much to all of our surprise. Next we knew, the golem glowed and dissipated away in sparkles, dropping me and Dora. "Hey! Who went and interrupted the execution?!" the Earth Mage demanded. "I did. Do you have a problem with that?"
