WILLIAM
Was I finally seeing things? Perhaps my mind was making this up. It couldn't possibly be Bianca that I was looking at, was it?
"B-Bianca?" I stuttered as I kept gazing at her, but at that critical moment, I took my eyes off the road.
"Watch out!" She screamed at me as I almost crashed into an incoming vehicle at the other lane. I quickly steered back to my lane and looked at her briefly. She was visibly shaken and I was truly sorry for that.
"Are you okay?" I asked her as I drove on. I kept on checking the rear mirror incase Reagan and his men were following. I had no intention of fighting them in public for that would not be good on my part. It would attract unnecessary attention to myself and I did not want that.
"I am fine.", She said to be but she did not meet my eyes. She kept on looking out of the window and I traced her eyes to the red moon in the sky. It took everything in me not to touch her at that moment. I wanted to see if perhaps she remembered me, if indeed she was Bianca. But there was no sign to indicate that she was. Was that just a mere resemblance? But what about the words of the mage? I did not know if his words were true or not but I had been rooting for it for a while, that's until, I lost faith myself.
"Thank you for helping me but I would like to get off here." She said to me and pointed to a Starbuck. I looked at her for a moment and then zoomed right off. In that moment, she looked right at me and I got the chance of seeing her beautiful eyes again. Those eyes, which seemed to capture the very being of my existence. They shone like the sun itself and I think I felt my heart flutter from her gaze
"What are you doing? I told you I wanted to get off." She said to me, her eyes demanding for an answer.
"Reagan will not let you off lightly. I do not know who you are or what your deal was with him but you are clearly in danger. Dropping you off would mean that you would not live past ten minutes on your own. I cannot allow that." I simply stated. there was no way I would let her go right back into danger without evaluating the situation first.
"And what right do you think you have to make such decision? Are you kidnapping me right now?" She asked and I could not help but sigh.
"Would I really tell you that if it was true? That's not now kidnapping works you know.". I simply stated and made a sudden turn to the right that yet again, startled her.
"Be careful now. You claim to be saving me but it seems like you are doing the exact opposite." She screamed. A smile escaped my lips.
"That's not funny." She said again and when I looked at her, all I could see was Bianca whenever she was angry. She made this face that always cracked me up and I always told her not to get mad. Seeing this lady right now, brought back all of the good memories, and suddenly, it brought back the worst. I remembered the look on her face as she died in my arms; a look of betrayal and fear. She did not want to die. She did not want to leave me and the fact that I was the one sending her away made her sad. It broke her as she died. And there was nothing I could do. I just watched as the cold hands of death took her from me. I wasn't going to let this lady die as well.
"Where are we going?" She asked me.
"My house." I replied.
"I am not following a stranger to his house. I need to get off right now and to back to my place. You have been really helpful but I think it's time you let me go."
"I will never let you go." I suddenly blurted out and bit my lips when I realised what I had said.
"Sorry?" She wanted to confirm what she had heard but I did not say anything anymore. "Well, I need to make a phone call. Can I use your phone?" She asked.
"I do not have my phone on me. But you can get one to use when we get to my place. You must understand that this is the safest thing for you to do tonight. You must stay close to me tonight. I am your best shot at surviving this night."
She laughed.
"My friend is a cop and he is fully capable of keeping me safe.",
"Reagan has connections in places you could not even imagine. He has eyes and ears everywhere, even in your highly esteemed police department. If he wants you dead tonight, which I know he would, no cop can save you. No one else can keep you safe except for me. Believe me, I am your best chance at surviving."
"And what makes you so special? What makes you different?" Her eyes were on me now and they wanted answers. I did not avoid her eyes and with all conviction, I said to her.
"Because I am someone who actually has the power the keep you safe. What I have is not influenced by money or politics. So I ask you to trust me for a while..." I was still speaking when I saw some of Reagan's thugs driving up ahead. They seemed to be headed our way and I quickly told the lady to hide her face. She did without complains and when I drove past them, they seemed to take an interest in my car for a moment but none of them turned their cars around and followed. I increased the speed of my car and as the lady raised her head up, I took another turn that led to my house. But as I turned, I was suddenly dragged back into the memories of what happened that day, about seven hundred years ago. I tried to fight the urge to remember but I could not. It was very strong and before I knew it, I was pulled into an ocean of memories I wished I did not remember. However, it was true that our minds had its own ways of playing tricks on us.
So without saying anything else, I just drove towards my mansion.
