AURORA The next morning, I’d awaken with a startling clank of dishes. Heavy of breath, I sprung from my pillow to a sitting position. Beads of sweat collected over the bridge of my nose as my eyes darted over the subdued room. When my gaze landed on the housekeeper, I relaxed, exhaling a long sigh. I watched as she busied herself dusting and picking up after my mess. To avoid another encounter with Wendy, last night I’d eaten dinner in my room.
