CHAPTER ELEVEN

"You don't need walls here, Jasmine," Anthony murmured against her temple, his deep voice vibrating through her palms. "Not against me." Jasmine rested her cheek against his shoulder, letting out a long, quiet breath, completely surrendering to the warmth of his arms. "Okay," she whispered softly into his shirt. "Okay." Anthony pulled back just enough to look down at her face, a faint, victorious glint returning to his dark eyes. "Pack your drafting pens," he ordered smoothly, his tone returning to its usual commanding cadence, though a rare, subtle smirk touched the corner of his lips. "I am having the movers relocate this entire desk into the master suite tomorrow morning." Jasmine gasped, swatting his chest lightly. "You are absurdly bossy, Anthony de Mercer!" "I am a man who protects his investments," Anthony murmured, leaning down to capture her lips in a deep, possessive kiss that left no room for further argument. Resting her hands on his chest, meeting his dark, intense gaze head-on. "I told you, Anthony. My drafting tools, my light table, and my thesis boards are staying here." Anthony towering over her. "My suite has an executive desk three times this size. I can have a professional studio lighting system installed by tomorrow morning." "Your suite is where you sleep, where we rest, and where you clear your head from Mercer Global," Jasmine countered smoothly, standing up to meet his height. She placed a hand flat against his chest, feeling the solid, steady heat beneath his dress shirt. "If I move all my drafting tables, my noisy 3D printing models, and my scattered trace paper into your room, it turns our bedroom into a workspace." Anthony’s jaw tightened slightly. His dark eyes searched her face, the brooding, stubborn line of his shoulders refusing to yield. "I do not mind your workspace, Jasmine." "I mind," she said softly, her thumb lightly tracing the fabric over his collarbone. "I want a boundary, Anthony. I want this room to be my private study—a place where I can come during the day, blast my music, spill eraser dust, and work until my eyes burn." Anthony looked down at her hand on his chest, then back into her dark, resolute eyes. "And when the night ends?" Jasmine let out a quiet, breathless laugh, her lips curving into a warm, genuine smile that made Anthony’s chest expand with a heavy, quiet breath. "When the night ends," Jasmine murmured, stepping closer until her waist brushed against his, "I pack up my pens, turn off this lamp, and come sleep in your bed." The tension holding Anthony’s broad shoulders rigid instantly dissolved. A profound, quiet stillness settled over him. He stared down at her face, processing the raw, unspoken intimacy of her words. She wasn't building a wall to push him out; she was creating a space to work so she could come back to him with a clear mind. Slowly, Anthony’s large hands came up to wrap around her waist, pulling her firmly against his chest. His long fingers rested possessively against the small of her back, anchoring her to him. "A dedicated study," Anthony murmured, his voice dropping an octave, turning low, rough, and entirely compliant. "A dedicated study," Jasmine agreed, looking up at him with a mischievous glint in her eyes. "So you can stop sulking in my doorway like I'm abandoning you." "I do not sulk," Anthony stated smoothly, though the corner of his sharp lips twitched upward into a rare, breathtaking smile. "You were sulking ten seconds ago," Jasmine teased, reaching up to gently trace the sharp line of his jaw. "The great CEO of Mercer Global, defeated by a drawing desk." "I am compromising," Anthony corrected softly, leaning down until his lips brushed against her temple, taking in the sweet, familiar scent of wild jasmine and rain. He slid his hand up to the back of her neck, tilting her head up to look into her eyes. "On one condition." Jasmine raised an eyebrow. "Which is?" "When it reaches midnight," Anthony murmured against her lips, his breath hot and steady against her skin, "I come into this study and carry you to our room myself. No arguments, no extra revisions." Jasmine’s heart skipped a wild beat against her ribs. She looked into his dark, devoted eyes—completely stripped of corporate distance, filled only with a fierce, quiet warmth—and felt her last remaining defenses melt away. "Deal," Jasmine whispered. Anthony’s grip tightened around her waist, pulling her up slightly as he captured her mouth in a slow, deep kiss that sealed the terms far better than any paper contract ever could. The scent of fresh varnish and polished oak filled the guest room as two uniformed movers hoisted Jasmine’s old wooden drafting desk toward the hallway. "Careful with the legs," Anthony instructed smoothly, standing near the doorway with his arms crossed over his chest. He wore a dark charcoal dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, looking every bit the commander overseeing a tactical operation. "If it chips, you will replace it." Jasmine stood beside him, her hands on her hips, watching the spectacle with an exasperated smile. "Anthony, it’s a fifty-dollar desk I bought secondhand off a university bulletin board. If it chips, it adds character." Anthony didn't blink. "It is your desk. That makes it valuable." Once the movers cleared the threshold, Jasmine turned to survey her guest room—or what was rapidly transforming into her new studio. The twin-sized bed was completely gone, replaced by a sleek, L-shaped architectural work station positioned directly under the window to maximize natural daylight. Surrounding it were multi-tier sample racks for marble and hardwood swatches, a dedicated high-resolution blueprint plotter, and an ergonomic leather drafting chair. It was an architect’s absolute paradise—a dedicated, professional studio space right inside the penthouse. "So," Jasmine murmured, walking over to her new desk and trailing her fingers along the smooth, matte-black surface. "This was your grand compromise?" Anthony stepped into the room, his heavy, unhurried footsteps coming to a stop behind her. He reached out, his long fingers lightly resting on her waist, drawing her back against his chest. The familiar, intoxicating warmth of cedarwood and dark coffee wrapped around her instantly. "It is a logical resolution," Anthony murmured into her hair, his deep voice carrying a low, contented vibration. "You requested a dedicated space where you can spill graphite, pin up blueprints, and work until three in the morning without feeling like you are invading my space." "And in return?" Jasmine asked, tilting her head back to look up into his dark, analytical eyes, a playful smirk touching her lips. "In return," Anthony said, his tone shifting into something possessively quiet and immovable, "the guest bed is removed. You have no bed in this room. Which means when you are finally exhausted and ready to sleep, you return to our room. To my bed. Where you belong." Jasmine let out a quiet, breathless laugh, shaking her head. "You really couldn't stand the thought of me sleeping across the hall, could you?" "No," Anthony admitted without a shred of hesitation or corporate posturing. He turned her around in his arms so she was facing him, his hands resting firmly on her hips. "I spent twenty-nine years sleeping in an empty room, Jasmine. I didn't care. But after having you in my arms for one night... waking up to a cold bed is a inefficiency I refuse to tolerate ever again." The sheer, unapologetic honesty in his voice sent a sweet, electric shiver straight to Jasmine's heart. "An 'inefficiency'?" she teased softly, reaching up to smooth down the collar of his dress shirt. "An unbearable one," Anthony corrected gently. His gaze softened, his thumb tracing the delicate curve of her jawline with incredible tenderness. "This room is yours, Jasmine. It is your studio, your sanctuary, your creative kingdom. No one will disturb you here when you are working. But when the lights go out... you come home to me." Jasmine looked around the bright, beautiful studio, then back into the intense, devoted eyes of the man holding her. The balance felt perfect. She wasn't giving up her independence or her dreams, nor was she hiding behind defensive walls anymore. She had her own space to build her future, and a partner waiting in the dark to anchor her when she was tired. "Deal," Jasmine whispered, stepping up on her tiptoes to press a soft, lingering kiss against his jaw. Anthony’s arms tightened around her waist, pulling her flush against him as he deepened the kiss, sealing their compromise with a quiet, possessive promise that needed no contract. The late-afternoon sun was dipping below the city skyline, casting a rich, golden-amber glow through the floor-to-ceiling glass of Jasmine’s newly finished studio.
