Chapter 17Unsettled by his earlier nightmare and unable to sleep, Ian wandered out into the living area, restless. He found Mei and Regan together on the couch, carrying a conversation in low, hushed tones. He tried to catch a snippet of their discussion, but unfortunately, their conversation trailed off when they spied him in the entryway.
“Have you seen Adam around?”
Mei and Regan exchanged glances. “He went out for a drink,” Mei answered after a moment.
“Where?”
Mei patted Regan’s leg before joining Ian out of earshot.
“Where?” He repeated.
“You should give him some space.”
Ian frowned. “Did he say something?”
“Not in so many words.”
“Are you being cryptic on purpose?”
Mei searched his face, concerned. “What happened? Did something happen between you two?”
