"Miss Garrison, please follow me. The CEO is waiting for you in his office," Nancy's voice interrupted Larissa's train of thought.
Larissa rose from her seat and followed Nancy toward the elevator.
Along the way, she tried to anticipate the questions she might face. This job was critical—if she got it, her mother's medical expenses would be secured.
The elevator ascended slowly. Larissa focused on the numbers changing on the display, attempting to calm her racing heart.
The elevator stopped on the top floor.
Nancy led her down a long hallway that ended at a spacious office.
"Please wait here," Nancy said, stepping up to knock gently. "Sir, the candidate has arrived."
"Come in."
A deep, familiar voice came through the door.
