Chapter Eight
Susannah listened to the girls talking in the dormitory after lights out and discovered Emma Holman was the mistress most talked about. You had to keep on her good side if you didn’t want to be flayed alive. She was acknowledged as the fiercest flogger. But she was also stunning looking and quite a number of the girls had a crush on her.
The gossip was all about her being put in charge of the punishment block. One girl had come back with tales of her ordeal in the block and how Miss Holman had lorded it over everyone else, including the men. She showed her body to someone in the shower and then to the whole dorm. It was covered in the worst bruises anyone had ever seen.
It sounded a bit like hysteria to Susannah but she was intrigued by all the talk about this one mistress
