Chapter Ten
After a term at the Septimus Grey Academy, Susannah was judged to have made good progress. Good progress meant she had become more compliant and more biddable. There were two main influences behind the transformation. One was that Belinda took Susannah under her wing and protected her when necessary. She was introduced to the rest of the lesbian sisterhood and became accepted and popular within the circle. The clique was strong enough to withstand regular ridicule from those girls who regarded themselves as exclusively heterosexual and who enjoyed fooling about with the boys as well as some serious relationships that caused conflict and rivalry.
