Chapter Three Chrissie stayed behind after the lesson and fluttered her eyelashes at Andy Scates. ‘I’m struggling with the Merchant of Venice essay Discuss Portia as an example of Shakespeare’s heroines,’ she told him. ‘Should I bring Lady Macbeth into it? Is she one of his heroines?’ Such is the perversity of human nature that Chrissie had decided to give him another chance on the basis that he’d ignored her since the day she’d walked out of his flat.
