Chapter 3

Corsica

Next Morning

A sense of guilt washed me, every time I closed my eyes the dream replayed. I was embarrassed by my wild thoughts as to how passionately I was making love to a total stranger in my dream whom I met only for five precise minutes. How can somebody leave such an impact on me? It was intense, the love we shared in my imagination, thinking about the dream alone gave me goose bumps.

I felt Niki come and shake me looking at me annoyingly

“Earth to Emma! Where the hell are you so lost? I have been screaming your name from the shower to hand me my dress lying on the bed. When you didn’t listen, I came out almost naked and dressed right here in the room in front of you, and you didn’t even notice, you were totally zoned out! What were you thinking? Come on reveal!” She asked me with a raised eyebrow.

“It’s nothing! Just something random” I muttered trying to walk away to the shower. but Niki pulled me back on the bed and looked into my eyes “Tell me what is bothering you? You seem nervous!”

“Nothing! I just had this dream!”

“What dream? Did you see something terrible, did it scare you?”. She asked concerned.

“No not that! it was just... it was a wet dream” I said with my cheeks turning deep red, but before I could complete, Niki interrupted me “Oh crap! Sorry I asked, for the first time ever I don’t want details. I cannot hear how you got down and dirty with my brother in your f****d-up head” she laughed hysterically, making me feel more embarrassed.

How do I tell her the guy in my dream was not her brother but a man who I just saw yesterday and know nothing about, except for the fact that he looks like a Greek God!

Niki had a good laugh for the next couple of minutes, and when she calmed down, she said “Well! when you already have your hormones breaking lose in the middle of your sleep, why don’t you just get over with it in reality? You clearly are craving for it! You guys are together for three years now! I think its high time. Come on Emma! please be out of your nun zone, my brother has needs you know” She said teasing me. 

“First of all, I am not having this conversation with you. This is getting weirder than I thought and after I tell you what I am about to tell you, you promise me that you will leave me alone to get ready for our day and no more teasing or poking.”

“ok promise, now shoot” she said excitedly.

“Umm I have decided to you know, take our relation to the next level, tonight after your birthday party” I said shyly.

“Aww! Look at that! I am so happy! I know what this means for you Emma! and if now you feel you are genuinely ready for it, then definitely it means serious business for you! Wow! I can already picture you as my future sister in law!” She said embracing me and squeezing me hard.

“Control your horses Niki! Before you start planning my wedding now, will you please get out and let me get ready?” I said almost pushing her out of the door.

As soon as I was alone in the room, I headed to the shower and took a long warm bubble bath! I needed this to relax my senses and shrug off every unwanted thought that was pondering my head ever since I met Jake yesterday. I am not supposed to fantasize about any other guy! I must not! I love Nate, always had and always will and now I want our bond to strengthen in every possible way. This is what I wanted all throughout, and this is exactly what I am going to do!

I am going to step out and spend a beautiful day with Nate, clear all our differences and surprise him with the best birthday gift ever!

I wore a red short dress perfectly fitting the shape of my body. I tied my hair in a pony, put my favorite natural color lip gloss, grabbed my bag and made my way down to join everyone else.

It was a beautiful sunny day and tonight it was Nate and Niki’s pre birthday party at one of the fanciest beach side clubs here. We were planning to party and ring in their birthdays at midnight.

We all planned to step out for some sightseeing and get back after lunch keeping the evening free for everyone before we get ready for our party tonight.

We were all heading out of the resort, when suddenly I felt a hand wrap around my waist. I turned around to see Nate giving me a loving smile.

“Hi there! Someone is looking hot today” He winked with a shred of mischief on his face.

I was relieved! This was the first normal and alone moment we both had ever since we got here and having Nate’s arms around me made me feel relaxed and at ease again.

Nate was dressed casually in a basic blue t-shirt paired with black jeans.

“Somebody isn’t looking bad either, and I am glad somebody has finally found some time for me. How are you doing Nate? I have missed you, I have missed us” I said wrapping my arms around his neck and giving him a peck on his cheeks.

“I am happy to be with you here Emma! Let’s just have a good day today, I want to make it special and unforgettable for both of us”. He winked and we both walked hand in hand towards our ride.

We went around the city saw museums, monuments, street markets and finally dined for lunch in one of those authentic specialty restaurants in the heart of the city.

The meal was sumptuous, and we all enjoyed the local cuisine.

The guys were discussing Corsica’s traditional sport, while Sansa was busy flirting with a guy sitting right across our table. Jessica was her usual b***h self, throwing tantrums about how average the food and restaurant was, and how nothing in Corsica is meeting her standards. Niki and I were controlling our sarcastic grins, trying our best to nod at Jessica’s non-stop banter faking smiles here and there.

Nate was looking at me after every few minutes in between his conversation, giving me a playful look. I wanted to speak to him and have a heart to heart conversation so that I can just set myself free from all the fears and insecurities that have been building over the last couple of months. I wanted to relieve the tension between us, wanted to pour myself out to Nate, and wanted him to open up to me too.

After the meal while everyone was still seated at the table, I asked Nate to step aside and talk in the park across our restaurant. He nodded and soon joined me in the park. He came and sat next to me on the brown bench lying close to the kids play area in the park.

“What’s up baby? You look uneasy, what’s the matter?

“It’s about us Nate! It is high time that we both talk about our issues. Since last three months you have been so distant, you rarely call me, when I call you it’s usually a casual short talk and you are always in a rush to hang up, we hardly meet once or twice in two weeks, and whenever we do, you are either busy chatting on phone or we end up arguing on who is being ignorant to the other.

What’s going on Nate? You were never like this, instead you were the one who always initiated to call or meet, you used to be so loving and attentive towards me! What changed that you are suddenly pushing me away?”

“It’s nothing Emma! I just have been busy”

“Busy? that’s your explanation to all the ignorance and the way you have hurt me? That you were busy? Really Nate?”

“What else I am supposed to say? We had final year of our college and I was also settling in with my new group of friends, is that too hard to understand?”

He was about to say something when suddenly Jessica in her most annoying tone called for Nate from the park fence.

“Let’s do this later Emma, we are here together in this beautiful city and we must just focus on enjoying the moment. You are just overthinking, try to see the bright side of the things baby” he said extending his hand to me with a smile on his face.

I reluctantly took his hand and we walked back to the group. I was not satisfied with our conversation at all, as I could not chase away my doubts. He needs to give me more, I deserve a better explanation than this, but again may be this wasn’t the right time.

I made up my mind to speak to him again before we head to the party, after all I really wanted us to work.

Apart from this, it was a day well spent and soon we were set to head back to our resort. On our way back I fell asleep with my head on Nate’s shoulder. He gave me a gentle pat to wake me up once we reached. Everybody headed to their rooms, and we decided to meet at the reception at 8 pm to head to the club together.

I was tired and just wanted to have some alone time. Tonight was important to me and I wanted to spend time relaxing myself. I was heading to the elevator when Nate asked me to stay back while Niki went ahead to our room.

He held my hand and asked me to follow him. He took the elevator to 14th floor, that’s where he was staying. Rest of our rooms were on the 13th floor. I felt nervous but none of us uttered a word. The elevator’s floor beep got me out of my trance, and when we stepped out, Nate without leaving my hand, made us walk to his room.

When we reached his room, we saw a guy likely from guest services cleaning up his room. He warmly greeted both of us and even complimented me leaving Nick a bit irritated. As soon as he was done, he smiled and left the room closing the door behind us.

Once inside, I turned around to ask Nate.

“Hey what are we doing here?”, but before I could complete, Nate came closer, cupped my face in between his hands, and leaned in to kiss me. His lips met mine, and soon his tongue slid in and his hands moved up and down my back. At first, I was taken aback by surprise, but then I kissed him back with the same passion, my hands in his hair at back of his head.

After a deep long kiss, his lips slid down slowly to my neck, and his hand slid my dress up touching my inner thigh.

I was feeling dizzy and lost, and my heart giving in to his soft kisses that trailed down my neck right above my breasts. As much as I wanted him, I did not want this to happen like this, not before I talk to him and clear all the misunderstandings. I wanted this to happen leading to a fresh start but not like a make-up s*x where couples bury their issues without actually resolving them.

“Nate, please stop” I murmured.

He was too involved to listen as he continued kissing me.

 I said again but a bit loudly this time “Nate please stop baby. I need to talk to you first” 

He stopped with an agitated look in his eyes, “Come on Emma, what do you want to talk about now? I thought I told you to let’s have fun and enjoy our time here together? What else is left to say?” He asked controlling his annoyance as much as he could.

“I know Nate, and I really want to enjoy and be as close to you as you want, trust me! I want this too! But I want this to be very special for both of us, I want us to feel strong and embark on a new journey together with no fear or doubts. Last few months have been very concerning”

“What concerns Emma? Don’t you get it, we both are at different places now, I have a new life, way better lifestyle and elite social circle. I needed my time to settle in and I could not do it by being with you all the time. I needed some space so I took it, but again you will never understand all this because in your head you are still stuck in that small neighborhood”. His words stuck so hard, I could not believe my ears.

With tears building in my eyes, before I could open my mouth to say something, he angrily stormed out of his room leaving me there alone. I broke down on the sofa with his words replaying loud and clear in my head.

Am I not good enough for him?
