Kat blinked at the empty space before her and lowered her g*n, then leaned against the stone wall as the pain fled her skull.
She glanced up at Hugh, who looked as exhausted as she felt. The teleports had to be draining him, along with everything else they’d done.
“We have to find her.”
He stepped closer and bent his head, his lips hovering near hers, offering himself to her. “As you wish.”
She leaned in and kissed him again, stretching out her senses as far as they could go.
Perhaps practice made perfect, because she was shocked by what she saw in her mind’s eye—snow-capped mountains, huge, granite ones, jutting into clear blue skies. Beneath their peaks, they were cloaked in forests of fir and pine as far as the eye could see. A crystalline blue lake lay in the valley between them.
