SARAH
The knock on my door was soft at first, barely noticeable. But then it came again, a little louder, more persistent.
I knew it was Eloise, but I was too ashamed to open up and talk to her at the moment. Everything was a mess, but my attempt to return home on my own was total bullshit. I wasn't even sure I could face anyone at the moment.
“Sarah?” Eloise’s voice finally drifts through the door. “Come on, get up. You have classes today. Please open up.”
I stay curled up in bed, staring at the ceiling. My limbs feel heavy, my chest tight. I don’t want to move. I don’t want to face today. No, I am too much of an embarrassment now. Too much.
“Sarah, I know you are awake.” The door handle rattled, but thankfully I locked it last night. “You can’t just hide in there forever.”
