LEAH THE NEXT DAY The summit had begun, and the pack house buzzed with leaders and hushed plans. From Damien’s window, the mountains loomed, the forest stretched endlessly, but none of it eased the knot in my chest. “Are you ready?” Damien’s voice broke the silence, calm but close. He leaned in the doorway, casual as ever, like tonight wasn’t life or death. I didn’t look at him. “I am not sure” I replied, biting my inner cheek, my mind swirling with thoughts He sighed, the sound almost amused. “You shouldn't be Leah.” The plan was solid, no doubt; if everything went right, if the universe chose to be on our side, then yes. The plan would work out just fine. But I have never been that lucky, with each iteration making my stomach twist tighter. “I want to see Sarah before we leave,”
