She rushed through the halls searching for Tina, Payton had checked all the restrooms but she wasn’t anywhere so much for a fun first day. She walked out of the building searching far and wide for Tina she had to apologize for invading her privacy, it was wrong of her to do so and she knew but her curiosity got the best of her. Payton stopped when she caught a glimpse of Tina by the football field seated on one of the benches. Payton rushed over but as she got near she could hear sobs her head was rested on her thighs. Payton sat beside Tina not daring to say anything her eyes piercing the empty void as far as the eyes could see. She wanted to comfort her but all she knew about Tina was her name Tina, and by the way things went earlier she would probably be sentenced to death, by her own hands. Tina noticed the presence beside wondering who it was she wiped away her tears. She wasn’t at all expecting her to be here, her sadness disappear what replaced it was pure anger. Payton shrugged when she felt the piercing stare in an attempt to start a conversation, Payton cleared her throat then began to speak. “I didn’t mean to do what I did back there honestly. It was a mistake, I’m sorry for preying on your memories.” she never once tore her gaze away from the field, she couldn’t bring herself to face Tina. Tina wanted to believe her, she sounded genuine and regretful of her acts. The silence between them grew to a suffocating extent, Tina stole another glance at the girl beside her. Staring at her a little too much Tina spoke, “I feel like I might have over reacted a bit. That memory is just a touchy subject.” she rubbing the back of her neck nervously. Payton breathed out in relief, “I can relate got a lot of them up here too.” and she wasn’tlying at all, Payton Kent had a lot of issues she always ran from. A light giggle came from Tina finally mastering the courage she turned and faced Tina. “But I am sorry.” looking into her eyes she spoke. Tina stared back into her blue eyes a small smile creeped on both their faces, “I know you are.” she would be out here if she was not. Tina tore her eyes away from Payton looking into the field. “We didn’t have a proper introduction. I’m Tina a vampire and I got issues.” she looked back at Payton but not in her eyes. Payton took her hand giving her a firm handshake, “Payton hybrid angel and vampire and I got issues too.” they both laughed at their unusual greeting style. For a moment comforting silence filled them once more everyone staring at the field, just enjoying the silence. “You’re interesting you know first of your kind.” Tina broke the silence. She studied her one more time, Payton noticed the quick glance a small smirk appeared at the corner of her mouth. “How am I so interesting Tina, you just met me?” she questioned with a hint of sarcasm. Tina puffed out, “You’re really cocky you know.” she commented gaining a laugh from Payton. Payton Kent knew she was not always but it was always there. Tina chuckled, “But I meant like you’re not at all what I expected... Kind cool, certainly gonna be a good friend.” Payton turned to Tina was a hopeful smile, “Looking forward to our friendship.” Tina smiled back. Payton and Tina after a while eventually went back to class they still had about an hour before lunch. She had already gained a friend from a mistake, but she couldn’t be more happier because it happened. Ms. Rosalyn took over the class after Mr. Derek. Teaching them the principals and values of life as much as mastering their view of the world. The lesson went on, it was rather boring to say the least but she didn’t die. Payton now sat at their lunch table with everyone enjoying their meal. Noise coming from different groups in the room, the kind of excited chattering. “You upset Tina on your first day in class?” Amber asked Payton in full surprise, word didn’t take long to spread thanks to Ralph. Payton shrugged in her seat, “Again it was a mistake.” she had been saying it for the past ten minutes it truly was a mistake. “Plus we cool now and we’re friends.” she added. “With benefits?” Ralph questioned his friend while narrowing his eyes at her. Payton shook her head vigorously, “What? No!” she denied. Ralph crossed his arms with a pout he spoke, “Tina hardly gives anyone the time of day. So are you going to—” “She hardly gives you the time of day Ralph. After what you did I would too.” Jaan corrected him with a stern look. Him and Tina where best of pales, so was Tina with everyone else but Ralph. “So true. Ralph give up on trying to be on her good side, she might be gay.” Keelin patted him on the shoulder with his other hand still holding on to the drum stick he had devoured. “She is gay.” Dahlia pointed out. “What did he do?” Payton asked out of curiousity. It had to be good if he never got a whip of her good side. Dixie squealed on her seat pressing her palms together in a mischievous way she spoke. “I’ve been waiting for this. Tell her!” she nudged Amber. Amber and everyone else giggled, “Okay.. in an attempt to wow her with magic, he spilled the tray of food on her.” everyone broke off in laughter while Payton glared at Ralph confused. “In front of everyone.” Keelin added. A bang was heard on the table everyone turned towards Ralph, apparently he hit his head on the table in frustration. Payton messed up his hair, “Damn Ralph you’re one unlucky angel.” he growled, he most certainly was. A squealing sound came from the mics then a voice came through, “Sorry for disturbing your lunch hour, but I have a very important announcement.” the secretary apologize dead silence was in the cafeteria. “All students shall report to the football field after lunch, classes for the rest of the day have been cancelled.” a loud applause came from the students some cheered, there was not greater satisfaction to students then class being cancelled. As everyone thought she had finished she spoke again, “And Dahlia Quinn and Payton Kent, meet the headmistress after lunch.” silence followed. When Payton turned back to her friends huge smiles where on their faces including Dahlia. She wondered what was going on. Dahlia and Payton walked to the headmistress office, Dahlia cheering all the way. Once they arrived she knocked on the door getting an approving yes they walked in. The headmistress gave them both a welcoming smile as they sat. “You know why you’re here right Dahlia.” she didn’t waste anytime for chit chat. Dahlia nodded, “Yes mum!” she squealed in excitement, the day for Payton had just began. Payton tugged her friend’s shirt bringing her lips to her ear she whispered. “We’re meeting the headmistress shouldn’t you be like... Anxious?” yeah she was her mother but why would she be so excited. Dahlia giggled then looked to her mother with pleading eyes. The headmistress giggled too, “Tell her.” she gave her daughter a go ahead. Dahlia turned to Payton with a big bright hopefully smile, “This is a front. Just wait about three minutes you’ll see.” and she did do so after minutes she dragged Payton to the field her mother following behind them, shaking her head in disbelief at her daughter’s excitement. Payton stood in awe everything in sight was spectacular, just amazing. Two fay flew in the air with a banner with the words, Welcome to a new semester at Amidst. Old and new students. Below them were a matching band doing what they did best. From the other side of the field three girls dressed in red golf shirts. They were witches just like Amber, they held hands enchanting something under their breaths. As if Payton could not be more awed, imagines of all the species at Amidst was being displayed in mid air, like a short clip different colours all together. Everyone cheered, Dahlia nudged Payton. “You like? They do this every new semester. Never gets old.” Payton just shook her head unable to find words. With everything still going on, someone else appeared. Payton studied her from her shoes, she had on the same boots as dahlia with knee high socks. She walked like she dominated the school, her dark red curly hair kept just the right amount of short, her emerald green eyes beaming as she walked. She was in a red shirt, she was a witch a very pretty freckled one. Payton gazed at her in full awe at that moment everything wasn’t at Al important, just the red head. She took her stand with a mic, “Hello Amidst students!” the red head shouted gaining applauds and cheers from everyone. She giggled light her voice, her laugh it was so soulful “As your student body president on behalf of every staff member, I would like to welcome you back. Enjoy the show.” she left the stage giving space for someone else. But Payton was still staring even as she walked away, she was beyond amazed.
