I carry Kara in through the front door, her arm draped lazily around my shoulder, and her body is dead weight in my arms. She murmurs something that I can’t make out, something between a name and a sigh. Her eyes are closed when I glance down, long gone from whatever the hell she drank at the bar or whatever it is she’s been battling with these past few days. Kara is curled against me like she trusts me, like her subconscious doesn’t remember who I am. I chuckle to myself. If Kara knew even a quarter of the s**t I’ve done, she’d avoid me even if she was sleep walking. I take the stairs two at a time, careful not to stir her awake.
