Chapter Ten.: The Accident

1611 Words
Screeching tires tore through the quiet suburban street as Serenity floored the gas pedal. The car roared to life, a stark contrast to the silent horror that had just unfolded in their home. Kaia was sat beside Kaia in the passenger seat, trembling and wide-eyed, not fully understanding the gravity of the situation. Serenity gripped the steering wheel, her knuckles white with fear and adrenaline. Her vision blurred as she struggled to start driving. Just as started moving the car to leave the mansion's driveway, she heard a low rumble fill the air, growing louder. Glancing up, Serenity's breath hitched. A sleek red car, its headlights piercing the darkness, was hurtling towards her from the opposite lane. A loud horn blared, sending a tremor through the car. Serenity swerved, tires screaming on wet pavement. The red car skimmed past her as she began to drive away from the mansion's driveway onto the main street, the headlights momentarily blinding her. Her heart raced, adrenaline pumping through her veins. Meanwhile, the sleek red car parked in the mansion's driveway. The engine purred to a halt, and the driver's side door swung open. Khalia, her heels clicking against the pavement, stepped out, her expression a mix of confusion and concern. Khalia heard Cole at the front door banging the door, his voice a crescendo of rage. Her heart pounded in her chest as she sprinted towards the house, the cold wind whipping through her hair. She fumbled with her bag and brought out her spare key, the cold metal cold against her trembling hand as she opened the front door. "Cole?" she said as she he ran out of the house and watched Serenity drive his car further away from the house. "Cole what the f**k is going on?" Cole turned to Khalia, "She has f*****g proof!" He shouted over the sound of the car fading into the night. "The b***h has recordings!" "Give me your f*****g keys!" Cole roared, snatching the keys from Khalia's hand before she could even process what was happening. She watched in horror as he dashed to her car, his rage a palpable force in the night air. Khalia followed behind him, her heels clacking urgently on the pavement as he flung open the door and slammed it shut. Her mind racing, she scrambled into the passenger seat, the leather cold against her bare legs. "I told you! We should have gotten rid of her a long time ago!" Khalia screamed, her voice piercing the silence of the night. "Shut the f**k up!" Cole shouted as he started the engine and began to drive after Serenity, his rage blurring his vision. "You know what would happen if she exposes us! She'll destroy my f*****g reputation!" The engine of Khalia's car roared to life, and Cole peeled out of the driveway, the tires screeching in protest as they squealed down the dark street. His eyes narrowed, focusing on the taillights of Serenity's car, which grew smaller and smaller in the distance. His hand tightened on the steering wheel, his knuckles whitening as he pushed the pedal to the floor, the speedometer climbing rapidly. "There's! Your car!" Khalia pointed, her voice shaking as Cole's car roared closer to Serenity's retreating taillights. Serenity's eyes widened in the rearview mirror, seeing the red car gaining on them. Panic clutched at her heart as she realized Cole had found them. The cliff road was a dangerous choice, but it was the only way she knew to lead him away from Kaia. She had to be careful, one wrong move and they could plummet into the abyss below. "Mom, where are we going?" Kaia's voice was barely a whisper, her eyes glued to the side-view mirror, watching the red car that grew closer and closer. "Please, Kaia, don't ask any questions right now," Serenity pleaded, her voice trembling with fear and urgency. Her eyes flickered between the rearview mirror and the winding cliff road ahead, her heart racing like a wild animal's in a cage. The red car's headlights grew larger, casting a demonic glow. Cole, driving the sleek red car, sped past Serenity's car, his tires screeching as he executed a perfect U-turn. His eyes were wild with rage, his focus solely on the taillights ahead of him. The engine roared like a beast released from its cage, the power beneath the hood responding eagerly to his desperate need for control. Serenity's heart skipped a beat as she watched Cole's car disappear, only to reappear in her rearview mirror, charging towards them like a bull in a china shop. "Mom, what's happening?" Kaia's voice was a mix of fear and confusion, but Serenity had no comfort to offer, her mind racing with thoughts of escape. Serenity's eyes widened in terror as Cole's car crashed into them with the force of a sledgehammer. The world spun out of control as their car was sent tumbling across the road, the crunch of metal on asphalt an assault on their ears. The car rolled over, windows shattering into a million deadly glittering stars, the seatbelts straining against their bodies like lifelines in a storm. Kaia's screams melded with the cacophony of destruction, a symphony of fear and chaos that seemed to go on forever. The car finally came to a rest, the once sleek red beast now a twisted metal wreck, the airbags limp and deflated. Cole and Khalia climbed out of the car, their faces contorted with a rage that was matched only by the fiery determination in Serenity's eyes. Despite the pain, despite the fear, she had to protect her daughter. Serenity's vision swam with darkness as blood trickled down her forehead, stinging her eyes. The taste of copper filled her mouth, and she felt the warmth of it dribble down her chin. She turned towards Kaia, whose legs were scattered with glittering shards of glass. Her eyes widened in horror as she saw her daughter's pained expression, the innocence in her eyes shattered along with the car's windows. But there was no sound, only the deafening silence that accompanied her own inability to scream. Serenity turned her head slowly, the world still spinning around her. Through the veil of shattered glass and the haze of the deflated airbags, she could make out two figures walking towards her. The sight of Cole and Khalia sent a cold shiver down her spine, the horror of their betrayal now etched into the very fabric of her soul. They approached the crumpled car like predators stalking their prey, their expressions a twisted mix of anger and triumph. "You f*****g b***h!" Cole spat; his voice filled with a malicious glee that sent a chill through Serenity's bones. "After eight years of marriage, you're still too dumb to keep your mouth shut!" He leaned in, his breath hot and sour, his eyes boring into hers with a hatred she had never seen before. "And look at you, no one will even miss you when I'm through with you!" Khalia giggled behind him, the sound grating on Serenity's nerves like nails on a chalkboard. "He's right, you know," she said, her voice dripping with spite. "You were never good enough for him. You were just a convenient f**k, and now you're a problem that needs to be solved." Tears stung Serenity's eyes as Cole's cruel words echoed through the shattered interior of the car. She took a deep, painful breath, the metallic taste of blood in her mouth serving as a grim reminder of their situation. Cole reached into the broken window, his eyes gleaming with a malicious satisfaction as he snatched her phone from the floor. "This is over," he sneered, holding the phone up like a trophy. "You and your little girl are going to vanish, and no one will ever know what happened to you. You're just going to be another sad story on the news, forgotten in a week." Serenity's heart hammered in her chest as she watched Cole's twisted smile grow wider. She knew he was capable of anything. "Please, Cole," she whispered, her voice cracking. "Just let us go. You can have whatever you want." "You think I'd let you go after you tried to ruin me?" Cole sneered, his hand tightening around the phone. "You're going to pay for what you've done, bitch." With that, he turned on his heel and marched back to the red car, Khalia following closely behind. Serenity watched them retreat, the cold reality of their intentions setting in. Her mind raced, searching for a way out. But before she could even begin to formulate a plan, the roar of the engine pierced the silence, growing louder and more menacing with each passing second. Her heart in her throat, Serenity braced herself as Cole's car barrelled towards them, a beast of metal and rage. In a sickening display of power, he smashed into the already damaged car once more, the impact jolting them like ragdolls. Glass shattered, and metal screeched in protest as the car lurched dangerously towards the cliff's edge. The car began to tumble down the cliff, each rotation a twisted ballet of shattered metal and breaking glass. Finally, the car came to a rest at the bottom, the engine hissing like a dying animal. Cole and Khalia watched the horror unfold from the safety of the cliff's edge; their faces contorted with twisted pleasure. Cole pulled out his phone, his eyes gleaming with a sadistic satisfaction as he watched the car plummet into the abyss. "Get the boys," he barked into the phone, his voice echoing through the night. "We've got a body to take care of."
