Chapter 12

He picked me up and we drove to the same diner that Trent left me. “Is everything OK?” “Oh umm I just had a really bad date here. Like he left me sitting by myself while he went to make out with his ex and I ate dinner alone.” “I promise you will have a better memory with me.” “I hope so.” As soon as we entered the restaurant, my eyes fell on Abby and Colton. It would be the first time I had seen him since our kiss. I decided at that moment that he didn’t deserve my attention. We walked past his table and I could feel his eyes burning into my back. Jackson pulled the chair out for me and placed a small kiss on my cheek. “I figured I would get the awkward first kiss out of the way so we could have an amazing second kiss.” I couldn’t help but giggle. “Did I tell you how hot you look in this outfit?” “No you haven’t.” “I am the envy of all of the men in this place.” “I don’t know about that.” “I do, but I like that you don’t.” We ordered food and he actually stayed for the entire meal. “How about dessert?” "I am super picky because I bake. But I have a new chocolate raspberry cheese cake I made today after work. If you want to come back to mine.” He raised his eyebrows at me. “I mean for food. Um I’m not..I mean I’m a virgin so I wasn’t positioning you.” I knew my face was red and I couldn’t believe I blurted all of that out. “I think that just made you so much hotter. Come on, I would love to try your cake.” He said with a wink. I took his hand and he led me out of the dinner. It was then I noticed Trent and Hunter joined Colton and Abby along with the other two barbies. I couldn’t help but wonder if they ever did anything without each other. I walked out with confidence and out of the corner of my eye I could see all of them checking me out. Once we got back to my apartment, I pulled the cheese cake out of and cut both of us a slice. As soon as Jackson took a bite, I heard him moan. “This is amazing.” “Thank you.” “I mean it is really amazing. I bet you could make a lot of money off of this. Have you ever tried to work with restaurants outside this tiny town?” “No, and honestly, I was just happy to have a job.” “I have a feeling there is a story here but not a first date kind of story.” “No, not yet.” After we had dessert, we sat and talked for a couple of hours till I started yawning. I walked him to the door and he gave me a gentle kiss. It wasn’t like my kiss with Colton but it was nice. He pulled back and, as if battling with himself, he leaned back and kissed me deeply. Like caused my toes to curl deeply. “I’ll see you tomorrow.” “Goodnight.” “Goodnight beautiful.” The following morning was full of energy. Getting ready for work, I took an extra few minutes to make sure my make-up looked good. As soon as we opened, I noticed Colton walking in. He never stops in to get coffee. It’s usually Hunter. But either way, I didn’t care. It wasn’t until I turned and almost lost an entire tray of donuts because of him I noticed he was standing right behind me. I didn’t bother to say anything to him. I stepped around him and set the donuts on the table. “Can I help you with something, Colton?” Not hiding the irritation in my voice. “Listen, I am really sorry about the other day.” “Sorry about the kiss or sorry that you couldn’t even respond to my text message?” “Both.” His words hurt. I guess I was a mistake for him. “Ok.” “I still want us to be friends.” “Ok.” “That’s it?” “What do you want me to say, Colton?” “Nothing, I guess.” I continued to work and noticed he was still standing and watching me. “Is there something else?” “How do you know Jackson?” “Why?” “Just be careful with him. He was a player.” “At least he didn’t leave me sitting in a diner to go make out with his ex or kiss me and ask me to spend time together to blow me off for his ex. I would say I have come across plenty of players and I have managed to be OK.” He looked down at his feet. He knew I was right and what could he say? Sorry we picked other girls over you? “Have a good day at work Colton.” I resumed work and didn’t look up again. It was 11 when Jackson walked through the door. “Hey, I was hoping your lunch break was soon.” “Yeah, I was just about to go on lunch.” “Great. I brought the best subs in Texas.” “Sounds good.” We made our way to my apartment and he was right. They were delicious. My lunch hour went too fast and I had to return to work. Jackson gave me a quick kiss and walked me to the door. “How about I make you dinner tonight?” I asked bravely. He smiled at me and nodded yes. “Sounds good.” “Great umm come over any time after 5.” “I can’t wait.” I decided on a beef and broccoli Asian dish and rice. Jackson showed up at 5 and as I opened the door I found him waiting holding a dozen roses. “They aren’t as pretty as you but they will do.” He said, leaning in and giving me a kiss. After dinner, we watched a movie and I couldn’t help but want to make out with him, but he was a complete gentleman and only kissed me as he was leaving. “Don’t look disappointed. You have no idea how hard it is for me to keep my hand off of you.” He winked and walked down the steps.
