“Ok Nilimaji thanks for the lovely post-wedding dinner organized for my son and my daughter-in-law Nandini” They thanked as they left the Gupta’s. Manik and Nandini sat in their car, and his parents and grandma went in another one.
Nandini removed her head pallu, untying her hair bun and losing it a bit as the wheels rolled on the main road. “Nandini, i know all this is new for you, also that you don’t like paneer(cottage cheese), but you could have atleast tasted the shahi paneer. Nilima aunty must have felt bad.” he said as he drove the car. Nandini, bit upset, kept gazing outside the window as the rain drizzled on the glass.
As the car paused at the traffic signal, she saw a stall vendor selling roasted hot sweet corn, with a pinch of lemon juice and sprinkled spices. Her eyes stucked at the corn as she drooled down her memory lane. How, they used to eat corn on the way from their college, enjoying the rain, how she danced with her sisters on terrace on the music of rain drops, and her mother would shout at them, it was so fun, but then she was married, vowing the eldest daughter.. in a traditional family of their own caste.. she always dreamt of having a love marriage, and those romance after marriage, romantic candle light dinner, but here… all she is worried about is her pallu slipping off…. Romance… huh….
“Nandini, hello, what are you thinking…” his memory ride was interrupted by her husband’s voice, she nodded and continued gazing out nowhere. Soon she smelt a familiar aroma. She turned to surprise to see a hot sweet corn in leaf wraps in Manik's hand. He bought it when she was in her memory lane, not knowing the car was now standing by the stall. “Madam, if i know what you don’t like, i am also aware of what you actually like…. “ he winked. She smiled wide, having a bite of the yummy heaven she had, and rested her head on his shoulder. That day she knew the meaning of romance was not having a candle light dinner with roses, all it needed was a pinch of understanding and sprinkle of smiles.
