Chapter 6
Eli’s POV
I stand there confused at what just happened. That was my mate. I finally found her. But wait why did she run away? My wolf, Beau, is trying his best to take control and run after her. I fight him for control and turn back to Mabel who looks even more confused than I feel.
“Who was that?” I ask.
“Um, her name is Addison. She showed up Sunday morning asking to do something to earn some breakfast.” She spit it out quickly almost scared. I need to pull myself together. Taking a deep breath I try again, “Mable she’s my mate.”
She gasps and her hand goes up to her mouth. “I had a feeling she was a wolf, but I wasn’t sure. She’ll be back, she’s been staying here.” Her worry seems to have switched over to concern. I can’t wait, I have to go after her. I turn to leave asking Mable to call if Addison comes back without me.
I follow her scent to the clearing behind the bakery and get undressed. I shift and take off following her scent. She smells like lavender with a hint of vanilla. I still can’t understand what would make her run the way she did. I keep running hoping my greater speed as an alpha will help me catch up to her. I’m jumping over logs, rushing through leaves, pushing myself further along the trail of her scent when it suddenly stops. It didn’t fade, it just disappeared. What is going on? I stop and try to focus on any other sounds or smells around me to try to figure out what’s going on. I walk around in a small area where her scent vanished looking for any clues. My heart drops when I see freshly broken limbs from a tree above the spot her scent stopped. Was it a trap? Is there something more going on here that I don’t know about? Beau is going crazy. “Mate is in trouble” he whines in the back of my mind. I quickly run back to the clearing and shift back. Sloppily getting dressed I grab my phone and call Jameson. He answers on the second ring. “Yo, what’s up Alpha?”
“I need you to get 10 of our warriors and get to Mables. Be discreet.” I tell him through gritted teeth.
“Wait. What’s going on man?” He shoots back.
I don’t have time for this. “I’ll explain when everyone is here, just hurry.” I hung up and slung my phone into the seat of my car. There’s too much going on at one time and I can only focus on the look of terror on my mate’s face before she ran away. I have to find her. I need to know what’s going through her mind.
I walk back into Mable’s bakery and let her know I have some others coming to meet me here. She looks nervous. “Is everything ok?” She asks. I let out a breath I didn’t know I was holding in, “I’m not sure” I reply in a whisper. She reaches out and touches my arm patting in a comforting manner. She turns and goes into the back bringing out different pastries. She stops and without looking at me, quietly said, “Alpha Eli, please find her and bring her back.”
Mable’s POV:
I try to stay out of their way as Alpha Eli briefs what I assume to be his security team on what’s going on. I hear him explain a possible trap that has captured an ally wolf. Why isn’t he telling them that she’s his mate? I’m so worried about Addison. The poor girl was just starting to open up a little. A selfish part of me is disappointed I’m not going to have her help in the morning. I don’t understand what happened. I know she’s skittish but I didn’t think that she would run away like that. I don’t understand much about the werewolf mate bond. I just hope they’re able to find her and that she’s ok. I hurry back to the kitchen and grab some cups and the freshly brewed tea. Anything I can do to keep myself busy.
Eli’s POV:
After I finished bringing the warriors up to speed, I let them know we’re canvassing the area and not leaving until we find something. I see Jameson giving me a concerned look and I mind link him “she’s my mate.” I watch his eyes grow wide realizing the urgency and pressure behind this search. I block his mind link when he starts throwing multiple questions at me, knowing I can’t handle it right now. I need to find my girl. We all head outside and into the forest. Once everyone shifts and I make sure they’ve picked up her scent, I lead the search party to where it ended. We set out in four groups all going opposite ways. I link them to be careful and to remember that no clue is too small to report. It’s going to be a long night but I won’t stop until I find her.
