[Rue’s POV]
Leo stares at me like I’ve slapped him, but he isn’t allowed to try to guilt me.
I wasn’t the one who messed things up permanently, that was him, and now, I was done playing.
“I’ve gotta go,” I say, turning. “Principle Lefler is waiting for me.”
I don’t bother waiting to see if Leo is going to try to stop me and when he doesn’t, I feel both relief and pain shoot through me.
I’m relieved because I don’t have to continue pretending to be strong after everything, but I’m also sad because even now I wish that he would choose me and try to fight for me.
