The loud knock on the door startled me awake. My eyes fluttered open, adjusting to the soft morning light filtering through the curtains.
“Are you still in there, ma’am?” the driver’s voice came from outside my door.
My heart jumped in panic. “Yes, yes!” I called back, my voice still thick with sleep.
