Vivienne's POV
“What the actual f*ck! This better be a big joke," I mumbled, looking around as I tried to fix my gaze on the man walking with Alexander towards me. “Mr. Monroe? Oh my God! How didn't I pick up on that? It was so obvious. Alexander Monroe! I've messed up, I'm in deep shiiit,” I said loudly, tapping my forehead, feeling embarrassed already.
I could already feel my legs shaking as I walked towards them. “Why didn't he bother to tell me? I even mentioned his boss not sacking him. That would have been very funny to him. God! I feel like a fool right now,” I muttered under my breath, my heart pounding as I took each step closer.
Before I could cross the small road between us, a car parked in front of them, and his father got into it. The car drove off, leaving me with Alexander.
“Do you want to stand there?” he said loudly from the other side of the road. By the time I crossed the road, he was already walking towards the building. I increased my pace, so I could catch up with him.
“What am I doing here?” I asked as I followed him closely.
“Is that even a question?”
“Don't I deserve to know what I'm doing here?” I fired back, and I could hear him let out a loud sigh.
“Look, you need to drop this attitude if you really want us to work this 108 days out. I just…"
“All I asked was what I'm here for,” I interrupted him again, my voice tinged with frustration.
“To see my family and go to the court, am I free now?”
“Is all this even necessary?” I asked.
“Yes, it is very necessary. I have parents who need to see who I'm getting married to. I have things I might lose; this marriage thing is really hard on me, so please don't make this harder for me. You'll be good.”
I nodded, and we continued walking towards the front door. “Why is the distance this far?” I thought, but I couldn't dare say anything; I just followed his silent but obvious directions.
“And why didn't he even tell me he was the CEO?” I thought again as we walked in silence.
“Acting CEO,” he said loudly, breaking the silence.
“Wait, what? You heard me?” I gasped in surprise, my eyes widening in shock.
“Oh, you didn't want me to? That was loud and clear,” he confirmed.
“Of all the ladies to pick from, you definitely have a long list of women who would want to do this with you. Why are you…"
“I'm opening the door now,” he said, interrupting me, and I knew that was his way of telling me to keep quiet.
As we entered the very large sitting room, I was in awe, my breath catching at the sight before me. The room was tastefully decorated with exquisite artwork and decorative pieces that caught the eye. A grand chandelier hung from the ceiling, sparkling with crystal droplets, adding a touch of glamour. The Large windows allowed natural light to stream in, offering a view of a lush garden or a breathtaking landscape.
I stood at the entrance for a moment, lost in the beauty of the place, until Alexander called my name loudly.
By the time I searched for him, he was very far from me; I had zoned out for so long. “How embarrassing,” I thought as I walked towards him.
“Is this how you all walk here, or are you purposely making me go through all this stress?” I had to ask him as I followed closely behind him; I was already getting tired.
He suddenly stopped walking and turned towards me. “You don't like it?” he asked, looking into my eyes. I tried to read the emotions on his face but couldn't.
I didn't know what to say; I just stood there looking at him, praying that he decides to turn back and face where we are going.
“Answer me, you don't?” he said, closing the distance between us, his eyes searching mine, his voice tinged with vulnerability.
I could already feel my heart pounding heavily like it's about to burst. I'm very sure he was hearing it too. I tried to calm down, but I couldn't, especially not when he's looking deep into my eyes like this.
“I… I…" I tried to say, but I couldn't put my words together.
“I don't have any…"
“Alex,” a female voice called, interrupting me, and we both turned towards the direction of the voice. I didn't know who it was, but I'm thankful the person saved me from this situation; a sense of relief washed over me.
Finally, the person appeared from a corner, and I couldn't help but wonder how she could see us from where we were standing. I looked around and noticed a staircase behind me, and it all made sense now.
“Who could that be? Is she one of his aunties? A worker here?” I thought as she walked towards us.
“Mom, when did you get here?” Alexander asked loudly.
“Mom? No way. How?” I thought; I could feel my eyes opening wide in surprise, my mind reeling with questions. I was taken aback by her youthful appearance. This lady looked too young to be his mom. She was looking effortlessly beautiful for someone with a grown son. Her skin was smooth and glowing, with barely a wrinkle in sight. Her hair was styled in a chic way, and I couldn't help but shake my head; this is difficult to believe.
“Some minutes ago, and who is this?” she asked, turning towards me with a straight face, her expression unreadable.
“Oh, Vivienne. My fiancée,” Alexander replied with a smile, a sense of pride in his voice.
“Good afternoon, ma'am,” I greeted her with a smile, trying to hide my nervousness.
She looked at me from head to toe before turning to Alexander. I felt a pang in my heart; she didn't reply to my greeting. Now I know where Alexander got his rude behavior from.
“See you later,” she said to him and walked away.
“She is just surprised,” he said as he led me towards the room, trying to reassure me, but it didn't work on me.
Despite my efforts to remain silent, I couldn't help but respond. “She doesn't like me, and you don't need to pretend otherwise. It won't affect what I'm doing for you, I don't care.” I said in a calm voice.
He remained silent as he opened the door to reveal a room filled with various people. Among them, I noticed an exquisite wedding doll tucked away in a corner.
“Speaking of duties, I'll return to collect you in a few hours. We're heading to court with my family,” he announced before closing the door.
