Elara Pov
Alexander couldn't hide his frown when he saw Sam get out of the car that stopped and parked in front of my mother-in-law's house. He immediately pulled me aside to confront me.
"Why is that man here?" Earlier, before he saw Sam, he was in a good mood but now it suddenly changed.
I didn't tell him that Sam would come with me even my mother-in-law; I didn't mention to her that I had a friend who would come with me. I thought Sam might not be able to come even though he had already told me he would join us out of town.
"Didn't you say I could bring a friend?" I replied, ignoring the sudden change in his mood.
"I thought the friend you were bringing was Liam? Why did you bring that guy instead?" he asked me with a frown still on his face.
"My bestie couldn't come because he's busy. I brought Sam instead so I would have someone to talk to." I was sure Hannah would always be talking to him, so it was better for me to bring Sam so I wouldn't feel too out of place with them. "And besides, I don't have any other friends except Liam and Sam," I added.
"What do you think of us? Are we not people that you can talk to?" he replied to me irritably. If I didn't know he hated me, I would think he liked me and was jealous of Sam's presence.
Alexander didn't speak and just gave me a bad look. When I saw Sam approaching us after being let in by the maid, I immediately separated from Alexander to greet my friend.
"Hi, Sam. I thought you couldn't make it," I greeted him with a smile.
"I promised that I would go with you so I won't break that," he answered me with a smile, then leaned closer and whispered. "It looks like Alexander was surprised by my arrival. Didn't they know that I was with you?" he said while looking at the door.
I followed where he was looking. It was Alexander standing at the door, his face indescribable as he looked at us. Hannah approached him and pulled him inside the house.
"No. They expect Liam to be with me. But just ignore him. Let's go. I'll introduce you to my mother-in-law."
I brought Sam inside the house and introduced him to my mother-in-law who was currently having coffee. We have a long way to go, so even though it's still dark and early morning, we need to leave the house.
I was pleased that my mother-in-law accepted Sam as my friend. Soon, we were riding Alexander's Hi-Ace leaving the house. Edzel, who was also part of the outing, was driving the vehicle with Alexander's mother beside him. In the first row of the backseats are Sam and I sat together while Hannah and Alexander were seated in the row behind us.
"Are you cold? Why didn't you wear a jacket? You know it's cold inside the vehicle," Sam said to me when he saw me hugging myself.
"I'm okay. I'm not cold," I lied even though the truth was I had been feeling cold for a while. I had brought a jacket but left it on the seat when I stood up as we were about to leave.
Without hesitation, Sam took off his jacket and put it on me. "You wear this so you don't get sick before we reach our destination."
"How sweet. I'm envious of you, Elara. You have a friend like Dr. Sam," commented Hannah from behind me. "Are you sure you're just friends?" she added.
I felt worried that my mother-in-law might have heard what Hannah said, but when I slightly peeked at her in her seat. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw her eyes closed, and she was seemingly in a deep sleep.
"Thanks," I said to Sam instead of paying attention to what Hannah said. I don't care what she thinks about me and Sam as long as our conscience is clear.

I don't understand why I feel heavy-hearted towards Sam. He hasn't done anything wrong to me, but I really get annoyed whenever I see him.
He let Elara wear his jacket because the woman was cold. He didn't even consider that the woman's husband was just behind them. And why are they sitting next to each other? Shouldn't I be the one sitting next to Elara because I'm her husband?
I couldn't help but curse in my mind when I remembered that we were only married on paper. And maybe Sam knew about that, which is why he acted that way. But he should still show respect because my mother was inside the car. Fortunately, it seemed like my mom was asleep and didn't hear what Hannah said to Elara.
"It's nice to see you again, Elara. You've become even more beautiful compared to the last time we met," Edzel said to Elara, breaking the silence that dominated inside the car.
"Thank you. And it's nice to see you too, Edzel," I heard Elara reply. The two talked as if they had been close for a long time. I couldn't help but frown because whenever I spoke, Elara wouldn't respond. Only Edzel and Hannah would talk to me. I couldn't understand why I was feeling this way. Maybe I just wasn't used to not being given attention.
I decided to just stay quiet in my seat until I fell asleep. When I woke up, we were already near our destination, the Hundred Islands in Alaminos Pangasinan.
After a few moments, we parked at the hotel where we would stay. Unfortunately, there were only five vacant rooms and there were six of us.
"Let's just move to another hotel, Mom," I suggested to my mother when we found out that one room was missing.
"And why should we move? The five rooms are just right for us. Each of us has a room while you and Elara share one because you're married," said my mom after counting all of us. I forgot that Elara and I are indeed married, so we should sleep in the same room. My mother doesn't know that we sleep in separate rooms at home.
Elara and I looked at each other. I saw the disagreement on her face but she couldn't contradict what my mom said.
"It's better if each of us has our own room, Auntie. For privacy. They're always together at home, so maybe they want separate rooms now," Hannah quickly said to my mom.
Of course, she also doesn't want me to be in the same room with Elara because she's jealous. I know that she likes me, but I just don't pay attention to it because I don't feel any love for her. If her father weren't a family friend of ours, I wouldn't bother entertaining her, especially since she's a spoiled brat.
"No. No. I disagree," my mom firmly objected. "Elara and Alex will sleep in the same room because they are married. Period," she said decisively before going to the receptionist to get the five vacant rooms. We had no choice but to follow her.
As I was walking, my friend subtly moved closer to me and put his arm around my shoulder.
"Are you happy now, my friend? You will be in the same room as Elara. You won't be jealous of Sam anymore," she whispered softly to me.
"What the heck are you talking about? I am not jealous, okay? I don't like that girl so why would I be jealous?" I answered defensively.
"Really? Why did your face look so disgusted earlier while we were in the car because Elara wasn't talking to you and Sam was being sweet to her?" my friend continued to tease.
"Shut up! I don't like her and I'm not jealous. Period!" I answered firmly, then quickened my pace and left my friend behind who just laughed loudly.
