Chapter 26

1385 Words
Elara Pov Alexander and I had no choice but to follow his mother's wish for us to sleep in the same room. If we insisted on sleeping in separate rooms, she might doubt the true state of our relationship. Hannah just gives me sharp looks when no one else is watching her. She's surely fuming inside because Alexander and I are sharing a room. "So how will we arrange things tonight when it's time to sleep?" Alexander asked as soon as we entered the room. The room assigned to us was nice and spacious, with a small sofa that could fit and be used as a bed for one person. "Do you even need to ask? Of course, you'll sleep on the sofa and I'll take the bed," I replied with raised eyebrows. Did he really need to ask me that? If he were a gentleman, it would be automatic for him to sleep on the sofa tonight. "What? Why should I sleep on the sofa? For your information, I'm not used to sleeping on the sofa and not in a bed," he strongly objected. "You're such a gentleman, Mr. Reed. Surely more women will like you when they find out about this side of you," I said to him sarcastically. He is so annoying. He doesn't even pretend to be a gentleman even once. "I don't need to act like a gentleman because there are still many women chasing after me because of my looks." "Conceited," I said to him irritably before walking towards the terrace. I slid open the sliding glass door that blocked the terrace. The wind was strong. My long, straight hair got messed up. I closed my eyes and inhaled the delicious breeze. "Uhm! This is what real fresh air is called." "Come inside because the wind is strong. You might get blown away." I turned to look at Alexander who had followed me and was now leaning against the doorframe. "Don't worry because I'm not as thin as Hannah who looks like paper that can easily be blown by the wind." "She's not thin but slim. That's normal for her because she's a model," Alexander quickly replied. He really defended that woman against me. It seems my suspicion is true that the two have a secret relationship. Maybe he has moved on from his failed relationship with Isabella and Hannah is now the replacement in his heart. "What are you two doing there?" Hannah's voice suddenly interrupted. She entered our room without even knocking. Really no manners. "Can't you see? We are enjoying the beautiful view," I teased her. The view was indeed beautiful because I could clearly see the other islands of the hundred islands. Our room was on the fifth floor and happened to face the islands of the hundred islands. Hannah was about to step out onto the terrace, but I stopped her. "Stay there. If you go out onto the terrace, I can't guarantee that the strong wind won't carry you away. You wouldn't want to be flown up and down like a kite." "She's insulting me, Alex," Hannah complained to Alexander. She really looked for an ally. "I'm not insulting you, Hannah. I'm actually concerned about your safety." I just raised an eyebrow and gave Alexander a challenging look. I was daring him to side with Hannah like he did before. "What are you doing here? Do you need something from us?" Alexander asked the woman instead of siding with her. I secretly smiled at how he ignored what Hannah said. Hannah pouted when Alexander didn't side with her. "Your mom, Sam, and Edzel are at the restaurant downstairs. Auntie said she's hungry, so let's eat," after saying that, Hannah marched out of the room. I'm starting to feel hungry, so I immediately went into the room. Our trip earlier was non-stop and we didn't stop for lunch, so it's not surprising that we're feeling hungry now. I didn't wait for Alexander and went out of the room first to head to the restaurant downstairs in the hotel. When I entered the restaurant, the four of them were already seated at the table, and various types of seafood were laid out on the table. My stomach growled even more when I saw the large prawns and crabs. "Let's eat first and rest so that this afternoon we can go island hopping," my mother-in-law said to me as I approached them. I sat next to Sam because I was sure that Hannah had already reserved the seat next to her, besides, I didn't want to sit next to her while eating. When Alexander entered the restaurant, he sat next to Hannah because it was the only vacant seat. "Have you gone island hopping, Elara?" Sam asked me. He was such a gentleman because he served me rice and even peeled the shrimp and crab for me. "Not yet," I replied briefly. "Thanks," I said when he finished peeling the shrimp and crab for me. "Look, Auntie. Dr. Sam is so sweet to Elara. He peeled and prepared the shrimp and crab for your daughter-in-law," Hannah said smilingly to Alexander's mother. She pretended to be envious but inside she wanted to create some malice in my mother-in-law's eyes about what Sam did. I suddenly felt nervous when my mother-in-law's gaze focused on me, then she also looked at Sam. Even Alexander and Edzel stopped eating and held their breath waiting for what my mother-in-law would say, while Hannah was grinning from ear to ear, thinking she had succeeded in her plan. But when my mother-in-law suddenly smiled, it was as if a heavy weight was lifted off my chest. "Oh my. Dr. Sam is so sweet. If I were still single, I would definitely have a crush on him," my mother-in-law praised Sam, then gave her son a disapproving look. "You should be like Dr. Sam, Alex. He's sweet to your wife, while you're not. You'll regret it if one day Elara falls in love with her friend and leaves you." I couldn't help but smile at what my mother-in-law said, especially when I saw the simultaneous frowns of Alexander and Hannah. Edzel also smiled and gave Alexander a teasing look. "Mom. Why are you comparing your son to other men?" Alexander did not hide the displeasure in his voice, but his mother ignored it. "Your girlfriend is so lucky, Dr. Sam. Do you already have a girlfriend? If I had a daughter, I would definitely push her towards you," my mother-in-law said with a smile. "I'm still single. But I am in love with someone. Unfortunately, I came too late into her life," Sam replied to my mother-in-law in a tone of regret. He took a shrimp and peeled it for my mother-in-law, which made her even more delighted with what my doctor friend did. "And who is the woman you are referring to that you love, Dr. De Dios?" Alexander asked Sam bluntly. "No need to mention her name because even if I tell you her name, you still wouldn't know her," Sam answered cautiously. Even I became curious about the woman he was referring to. He hasn't mentioned anything to me about his love life. "That's true, Alex. Why does Dr. Sam need to say the name of that woman when you don't even know her," my mother-in-law agreed with what Sam said. "It's better if we just eat so we can rest because later we'll go island hopping." "Just call me Sam, Aunt," Sam said to my mother-in-law with a smile. "Okay. If that's what you want, Sam. Eat a lot because the food here is delicious." My mother-in-law filled Sam's plate with shrimp, crab, and other food on the table. My friend didn't know what to eat first or if he could finish all of it. I secretly smiled while eating. It seemed like Sam was my mother-in-law's child, not Alexander. She was taking care of my friend while her own son wasn't even given food on his plate. When Alexander noticed that I was holding back a smile, he gave me a sharp look, but I ignored him and continued eating. The smile disappeared from my lips when I realized that tonight we would be sleeping in the same room.
