Chapter 9Off Duty Distractions “Do you ever regret that we never had kids, Andy?” Maria Ross asked her husband that evening as they sat watching a wildlife documentary on TV. They'd just enjoyed one of Andy's favourite childhood meals, good old sausage, chips and peas, which Maria indulged him with now and then. As a doctor she was well aware of the dangers of unhealthy eating but she also believed in the old adage that 'a bit of what you fancy doesn't do you harm'. “Why d'you ask that all of a sudden?” Ross asked. “Oh, I just see so many women of my age in surgery every day, and virtually every one of them has a family, two, three, maybe more children and I got to thinking if you'd ever wished we'd not made the decision to concentrate on our careers instead of having kids, that's all.”
