A Hot Piece of Ass?

I stared silently at Rose, had she just said what I think she had? Or was I losing my mind? “Did you just say a nest of vampires?” I asked her again, just to be sure. Rose looked at me with wide eyes before shaking her head. “I knew you wouldn’t believe me, please just drop me off somewhere and let me disappear”. I slammed on the brakes sending us both lunging forward. “No f*****g way am I leaving you on your own. You just told me you have a nest of vampires after you. Why would I abandon you?” She turned to me again, this time there was something else in her eyes. Relief. “You do believe me then? You don’t think I am delusional and need to be dropped at the nearest asylum?” I put the car into gear and began driving again. “Yes, I believe you. Being a private investigator over the last six years has definitely opened my eyes to things that go beyond belief, even the things we are too afraid to admit exist in the human world”. Now probably wasn’t the best time to drop into the conversation that I was one of the ‘things’ that people are too afraid to admit exist. The poor woman was freaked out enough. “It feels good to say it out loud and someone to actually believe me. I have been moving around for the past six months, constantly looking over my shoulder. Always afraid to let my guard down. I couldn’t even tell anyone for fear of them thinking I was crazy. But vampires are real Dylan, they do exist. Trust me I should know”. Rose turned to look out the window now, I could see by her reflection in the glass she was crying. f**k. I am not the comforting sort, Zac is more empathetic than me, what would he do in this situation? I reached out my hand and gently placed it over hers, she flinched at the contact at first, then she relaxed and allowed my hand to stay there. I drove like that for a few minutes before clearing my throat. “I think that, uh, maybe you should come back to my apartment till we figure this out. It’s not safe for you to go home and I promised I’d protect you”. She looked round at me with a concerned look on her face. “Will your wife or girlfriend be okay with you bringing some random female to your home?” I turned to her and smiled. “I live alone, no woman would have my grumpy ass even if I paid them. Apparently, I am impossible to live with”. Rose smiled back. “I will be the judge of that. Are you sure it’s okay to let me stay with you till I find a new place to stay?” I nodded. “Of course, I said I wouldn’t abandon you and I meant it. You can stay with me till we come up with a plan to get you out of harm’s way. I need to call my brother though and fill him in. I think it’s best if he comes round to my apartment so he can assist us. He is the brains of the operation, or so he thinks”. I winked at her, making her smile again. “Will he be mad at you? For helping me I mean”. “Let’s find out, shall we?” I pressed the last caller button on my dash and the loud ring could be heard through the car speakers. A very sleepy, grouchy Zac finally answered. “This better be good jackass, I was having the sweetest dream, Pamela Anderson was running towards me on the beach, she was carrying three cheeseburgers and a bucket of fried chicken”. I couldn’t help but snigger, Rose put her hand over her mouth too and looked out the window again. Clearly trying to stay quiet. “I called you because we have a situation Zac, you need to come to my place”. “Like hell I am, this is the first sleep I have had in three days. I am too tired to get laid, that’s how f*****g tired I am Dylan. What situation? Did you do the job we were paid to do? Please tell me you didn’t lose your mind over that hot piece of ass?” I looked awkwardly at Rose. “Watch your mouth Zac, that hot piece of ass is in my car listening to you on loudspeaker. There is a situation of the supernatural kind. Nothing like what we have experienced before, if you know what I mean”. Zac was silent, then he sighed. “So, what are we dealing with then? And how do you know all this?” “A nest of vampires, that is where we were to drop Rose off. We were about to hand her over to the vamps like a f*****g Uber Eats delivery. You need to get your ass out of bed and meet me at home within the hour. There’s going to be repercussions for tonight and we need to make sure Rose is safe”. “Hold on, let me get this straight. Rose? We have pissed of a f*****g vampire gang who paid us half a mill and now we are protecting Rose too? You got to be f*****g kidding me”, Zac sighed again but I knew this sigh was one of resignation, he knew I was right, and he knew he would have to go along with it. We were both in this mess now whether he liked it or not. “I’ll jump in the shower and be there within the hour. Try not to piss any other blood thirsty gangs off in the meantime”. The phone went dead, clearly Zac was annoyed but when the chips were down, I knew he would do what he could to get us all out this predicament. Zac was the strategic, intellectual type, I was more the ‘hulk smash’ type which worked pretty well in most situations. We balanced each other out that way. “A hot piece of ass?” Rose was looking at me with one eyebrow c****d up in amusement. “Not my words, I assure you”. “So, what were your words?” “Nothing like that, I may have said you were attractive but that’s it”. “So, you don’t think I’m a hot piece of ass?” She had a playful look in her eyes, I knew she was baiting me. “I never said that you weren’t, I just wouldn’t use that expression to describe you is all”. “Liar”. Rose smirked at me before leaning over to turn on the radio. Just as some pop song blared out my speakers my phone started ringing cutting off the music, I saw the name on the screen and immediately went to hit decline. But I was too slow as Rose pressed accept. “Hey lover, when you stopping by? I have some champagne on ice and your favourite red lingerie on. I need you”. The sexy purr in Belinda’s voice left no illusion of 'what' she needed. “Hi Belinda, I won’t be stopping by. Something has come up and I won’t be around for a while. I’ll call you”. “What? When? What do you mean…?” I hit end call before she could protest any more. I didn’t want to hurt Belinda’s feelings but really, she was nothing more than a bed warmer when my wolf and I were horny. He enjoyed s*x with Belinda too, mostly because she was submissive and would let us do whatever we wanted to her and as rough as we wanted. She was the last thing I need to worry about right now though. “Lover? I thought no women would put up with your grumpy ass. Did you lie to me about having a girlfriend?” Rose started at me with a quizzical expression or was it annoyance? I couldn’t tell. Was she being jealous? “I do not lie, and no she is not my girlfriend. More of a friend who’s a girl that I f**k occasionally. Does that satisfy your interrogation of my private life?” “I do not give a damn how many women you f**k, I just do not like being lied to”. “I’ll remember that”. “Which part?” “Both parts”. Rose shrugged. I smirked. “How far to your apartment?” “Two blocks away, you hungry?” “I could definitely eat something. Will we stop for takeaway?” “No, I will cook something. How does homemade pizza sound?” She looked taken aback. “You do not seem like the domestic type, I figured you had all your local food deliveries on speed dial”. “Never judge a book by it’s cover. You don’t think I just rely on this handsome face to impress women, do you?” Rose snorted. “Okay Casanova, I look forward to tasting your pizza. And who called you handsome? Are you sure you heard them correctly?” “Oh, is that so, I vaguely remember you telling me at the bar you were sad I was leaving because it was nice to have a handsome face to look at”. “You heard wrong asshole, all that raspberry syrup must have gone to your head”. I couldn’t help the laugh that rumbled through my chest at her indignancy. Something about this annoying, mysterious, beautiful woman made me smile more in the last hour than I had done for months. I was a moody, broody bastard ninety percent of the time. In the last hour she had brought out a different side to me, Zac would no doubt change all that as soon as he showed up. I pulled into the underground garage of my apartment and turned off the engine. Rose had gone quiet again in the last five minutes, her silence was worrying me slightly. “We’re here, how are you holding up?” She turned to me, concern all over her pretty face. “How do you think I am doing Dylan? I have a vampire hunting me, I am now putting my life in the hands of a guy I met an hour ago, who was initially going to kidnap me. Can I trust you?” Her eyes were searching mine, desperately trying to find the answer to her question. I didn’t look away, I wanted her to know she could trust me. “I swear, you can trust me and my brother. We can protect you if you’ll let us.”. “Why?” “Why what?” “Why are you willing to help me? Why do you believe me? What is in it for you?” I had to choose my words carefully, mostly because I had no real explanation for helping her…I just needed to. She wanted one though to ease her mind. “I feel like I owe you, I almost handed you over to a bunch of vamps to drain like a f*****g juice box, I feel sick at the thought. You have trusted me, I won’t let you down, I promise you. Okay?” I took her hand in mine, looking into her tear-filled eyes I nodded at her encouragingly. I meant every word, I hoped she could see that. She eventually wiped her eyes with her other hand and looked at me. She nodded. “Okay, I trust you. Even though I am not sure what you can do to protect me from Marco. I am scared you will get hurt. They’re vampires remember, not your average douchebags”. How could I tell her that I was more than capable of ripping this Marco asshole’s head clean off, I couldn’t, and I just hoped she would not have to witness it either. “Don’t worry about me, I will stock up on garlic and holy water. How do you know this vampire gang anyway? You are on first name terms with their leader. What’s the story Rose? You need to tell us everything if you want us to be able to protect you”. A frown appeared between her brows as she looked away from me again. Rose just didn’t like to say too much or give me too much information, but I wasn’t letting it go. Not this time. “What can you tell us about Marco and his gang?” Rose spoke without looking back at me. “I will tell you what I know, but can we get settled in the apartment first. Maybe let me have a shower?” I sighed. “Fine, but you will have to tell me Rose. I can’t protect you unless I know what I am up against. Would you know this Marco if you saw him again?” Rose shuddered; it was a small movement, but my wolf picked up on it immediately too. Marco must have done something terrible to this woman. “Yes, I would know him, his face is kind of hard to forget”. She still hadn’t looked back at me yet. I could tell she was being elusive. “What did that fucker do to you Rose?” I knew she wasn’t a vamp, she smelled too amazing to be an undead bloodsucker. What was the connection here? Rose sighed and pulled her hair over her shoulder and tipped her head to the side. My wolf went crazy at the gesture, this was the perfect submissive position. My wolf howled and urged me to take her. He better shut the f**k up. Last thing I needed was a semi. “This is what he did to me”. I leaned in for a closer look, her scent washing over my senses like a warm hug. It wasn’t till I focused on her neck that I saw what she was showing me, Lots and lots of tiny white scars. Bite marks.
