[Violet’s POV]
I consider Lance’s words while my heart squeezes painfully.
Stop it, Violet. I tell myself. You confessed and got rejected; it’s time that you accept that and move on.
“Alright,” I respond, smiling. “I’ll see what I can do.”
“Great,” Lance beams, and I feel the void between us growing. “If things don’t work out, we will find someone else.”
For the rest of our meeting we only talk about ways and reasons I can approach Ulrick. And once we are finished, we part ways like always, but as I leave Lance’s office, I feel a bit hollow. I know that it is because of the rejection I suffered, but even then it feels different.
What’s wrong with me? I think, reaching up and clutching my heart. I don’t understand why I feel like this when we weren’t even close to begin with.
