Caz had fallen back asleep for a little while. The pain meds had finally kicked in, giving him a moment’s peace. I hadn’t moved from my spot next to the bed. I couldn’t. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Gavin’s face. I felt the sting of wolfsbane still lingering in my veins.
When Caz stirred again, he reached for my hand without even opening his eyes.
“Still here,” I whispered, threading our fingers together.
He blinked slowly, golden eyes finding mine.
“I didn’t dream you,” he murmured, voice still thick with exhaustion. “You’re actually here.”
“I’m here,” I said again, trying to smile.
He studied me, more alert now. I knew that look. He could sense it—something still unspoken.
“There’s something I need to tell you,” I said softly.
He nodded, waiting.
