MFH Chapter 11: Not for the faint of heart

1301 Words
“W-Wait! What are you doing?” I shrieked as I exchange glances with both of them. However, they seemed to not care this time. All they did was to prepare all the necessary stuff to reconstruct I mean put some make-up on me. This is outrageous! “Again dear, behave.” The other woman just tells me this. It was a gentle reminder but a very authoritative one. I have no choice but to really sit down and just observe them as quietly as I can. They make me close my eyes, pout my lips, and even look up that my neck is becoming stiff. I even overheard one saying that it should be done in less than an hour for the dinner time by seven-thirty in the evening. Are we having a party? What’s the occasion? Of course, I just kept all of these in mind. They were able to turn me facing the window instead of the well-lit mirror because they can’t concentrate on applying all the things that my face need. I hope I don’t look like a clown for this one. After the finishing touches, the two women looked at each other and smiled as if satisfied with their creation. “Dear, you can face the mirror now.” The woman, who was strict a while ago, became happy as she instructed me with a smile. I slowly turned my chair to the mirror and I almost fell off it. I looked at the seemingly unfamiliar face that’s looking back at me. “Is that…me?” “Yes, of course. What kind of question was that?” The other woman sarcastically answered me. The other woman noticed that she elbowed her gently as she chuckles. “Oh please, Mrs. White already informed us about her. Don’t make side comments. Just enjoy it.” She winked at her. It’s the first time that somebody did this on my face. I can’t even apply make-up for myself because I can’t afford to have one. Also, simple talc powder and lip gloss will always give justice to my face. I never knew I could level up to this kind of aura. My looks almost deceived me. My face transforms when applied make-up on, even though it’s only light make-up. I can’t help but to smile and be thankful to both of them. “Do you like it?” The other woman folded her arms as she said it. Well, she seemed to ask me this because it's a requirement and not more of knowing if I liked it or not. “Yes! Thank you again!” I cheerfully answered that they can’t help but to have a high-five and be delighted as well. “Well, if you liked it, it’s now time for us to introduce ourselves. I’m Viola and she’s my sister, Cheska. We’re the personal beautician of Mrs. White.” Viola introduced herself while Cheska is only sarcastically looking at me. Maybe she’s just too serious about her work. “Thank you, Viola and Cheska.” I nodded my head as a form of being so grateful. I am a swan for a day. I am my version of Cinderella! How amazing is that? “If you’re done appreciating yourself, then let’s go downstairs. Mrs. White is waiting for you.” Cheska answered. Before we knew it, she had already turned her back from us and headed outside the room. “Sorry, my sister is really like that. Please don’t mind her.” Viola cheerfully said to me as she pats my shoulder. I smiled back at her to assure me that it is totally fine with me. As I go downstairs together with Viola, Mrs. White is already waiting for me at the foot of the grand staircase. She stood curious. I noticed she never looked at me, instead she’s like looking for someone. “Viola, where is Criselda? Who is this woman?” She angrily started as soon as we’re near her. “Well, I will treat that one as more of a compliment.” Viola just laughed out the frustrations of Mrs. White as if she knew her too well. Yes, she’s moody and grumpy if she’s not satisfied with something that she wants you to do let you finish a particular task. Viola held me on both of my shoulders and let me face Mrs. White. She’s looking at me so intently and after a few minutes, she gasped with amazement. “Oh my gosh!” Mrs. White held both my shoulders as both of her eyes sparkled with glee. She’s now smiling like crazy as if looking at a perfect masterpiece that she’d just finished creating. “Is this you, dear?” I nodded. She smiled even more. “She’s perfect! The way I imagined it! Thank you, girls!” Mrs. White whistled aloud because of too much happiness. Viola laughed at Mrs. White’s silly reaction. I am just stopping myself to make funny faces in front of them. Oh boy, what is wrong with my life? I slept a pauper in a peaceful paradise of me, just being with my mom and I suddenly woke up being a princess that has a lot of issues. So this is how it goes… The food served was all delicious. I noticed that all my favorite foods were there, from grilled chicken to the red pasta and a lot of sweet foods that are on the table. I can also see my mom beaming with happiness as she exchanged glances with Mrs. White who is also raising her two eyebrows as if wanting to connect a specific body language that is only understood by both of them. Hold on a minute, am I the only one that’s lost here? What exactly is happening now? I made a sound as if there’s a lump in my throat that made them face me. I smiled awkwardly that made Mrs. White chuckle. “Oh, dear! Look at you, Criselda! I want you to look like that every day. It makes me happy.” “I don't think I can last another day with this, Mrs. White.” I can’t help but answer her back. She laughed aloud as she heard these words from me. “That's not an excuse! You look amazing! Besides, aren't you happy that you look beautiful tonight?” “It’s not what I mean, Mrs. White. It's just that, it's a bit awkward for me, you know...I am not used to this one." "It's not wrong to be fabulous sometimes!" "Thank you, Mrs. White, I am happy with your effort. I appreciate it. But you know, for my mom, I am already beautiful in my way." “Well, it's not bad to dress up like this sometimes. You're even beautiful looking like this! I noticed you had a bad fashion sense that I am almost forgetting you’re a woman, too.” “I am comfortable with my clothes, Mrs. White.” I insisted but she seemed to not care. My mom is just a laughing mediator between us as she eats her food in silence. If mom will behave like that, I know she can’t say more. If she’s not commenting about anything, it means she’s okay with everything. My feeling is the opposite. I’m like roasted to death. We’re almost finished with our dinner when I noticed that Mrs. White is looking at the entrance door of the dining room connected to the kitchen. It’s as if she’s still expecting a visitor this late at night. I wonder who is it? “Sorry, I’m late.” At an almost blink of an eye, the door opened and it revealed a hot-looking man that’s familiar to me. I forgot where I last saw him because he’s facing Mrs. White as she is next to him. When he faced me, it’s like I’m about to faint. “L-Lauren Keith?!” I still managed to ask between the stammering voice I suddenly have right now. He grinned. “Lauren Keith my dear, thank you for making it up for me.” Mrs. White stood up and hugged him tightly, with tears in her eyes. That was the last scene before everything went dark for me.
