Marvin Simon was charged and arraigned for Ethel Orlan’s murder. Since he confessed and his attorney didn’t protest, there was no trial, which all of us agreed was best for everyone. “Ms. Agee would have not wanted to see Marvin suffer more,” Foster said when we all gathered before the sentencing hearing to support Marvin.
“Justice is important, but so is grace,” Mary said.
After his sentencing several weeks later, a judgment that would keep him in prison for the rest of his life, in all likelihood, the mood amongst Ms. Orlan’s former students was sober. Although he had been a minor at the time of the crime, he had not come forward for over fifty years.
