“But… how? Your mother’s still alive, so that means she must have-”
“Rejected my father,” I finished for her, swallowing down the bitterness that welled in my throat. “Runs in the family, I guess.”
Trinity winced, dropping my gaze like I’d struck her. Instantly, I regretted the harshness of my words.
“I’m sorry. That was uncalled for. We’re nothing like my parents, and I know, better than anyone, how hard all of this has been for you. I don’t blame you for the decisions you’ve made, and I get why you’ve made them. You’re a survivor, and that’s one of the things I love about you. It’s just hard not to feel like a failure in all of this.”
