An hour later, Ajax and Noémie stood on the other end of the tinted window while Veronica sat with her head down, two officers in the investigation room with her. Her lawyer sat next to her, a man in his late forties with a cautious look on his face.
“Whenever you’re ready, Ms. Shirley,” one of the officers told her, to which Veronica glanced over at her lawyer. Her lawyer gave her a nod to go on.
“Is Ajax here?” she asked carefully, not lifting her gaze to the window even once.
