Carla woke up in the garden, her mind still reeling from the events of the previous night. Damian had left after being summoned to the castle, but the memories of their encounter felt like a fiery tale that Carla could scarcely believe had actually transpired.
With a renewed sense of excitement, Carla hurried back to her room and drew a warm bath. As she sank into the soothing water, she allowed her mind to drift, replaying the tender moments shared with Damian. His piercing gaze, his gentle touch – it all felt like the stuff of dreams.
Stepping out of the tub, Carla carefully selected a beautiful dress that had once belonged to her late mother. The soft, flowing fabric felt like a comforting embrace as she slipped it on, and she couldn't help but feel a newfound sense of confidence. Breakfast had already been prepared in the dining room when Carla descended the stairs, her steps light and purposeful.
As she entered the grand hall, she was met with a familiar sight – her stepmother, Lady Tremaine, standing near the table, her expression pinched with disapproval. "Carla," Lady Tremaine snapped, her gaze sweeping over Carla's attire. "So, you've decided to grace us with your presence. And what, pray tell, were you doing out in the garden all night?"
Carla felt her heart skip a beat, her mind racing to come up with a plausible explanation. true she had really forgotten about her step mom after the meeting with Damian. he had promised to take her out of the castle today, but she knew better than to defy her stepmother. "I... I couldn't sleep, and the garden was so peaceful," Carla stammered, cursing herself for her lack of composure.
Lady Tremaine's eyes narrowed, her lips thinning into a disapproving line. "Peaceful, you say? Well, I hardly think it's appropriate for a servant to be gallivanting about the grounds in the dead of night. You have duties to attend to, Carla, and you've already shirked them by oversleeping."
Carla felt the familiar sting of frustration rise within her. After the promise of a brighter future that Damian had offered, the weight of her servitude felt heavier than ever. "But, stepmother, I-" Carla began, only to be cut off by Lady Tremaine's sharp retort.
"Enough excuses, Carla! You will go straight to the kitchen and see to your chores immediately. And if I catch you wandering the grounds again, there will be consequences." lady Tremaine said sternly
Carla felt her temper flare, the words on the tip of her tongue, begging to be spoken. "That's not fair!" she exclaimed, her voice rising with each word. "Damian promised he would take me out of this wretched place, and you have no right to-"
"Damian?" Lady Tremaine interrupted, her eyes narrowing with suspicion. "So, that's where you've been sneaking off to, is it? Consorting with some stranger behind my back?"
Carla felt her cheeks flush with a mixture of embarrassment and defiance. "He's not a stranger, stepmother. He's-" she was interrupted by her step mom before she could finish talking
"I don't care who he is!" Lady Tremaine shouted, her face contorting with rage. "I will not have you tarnishing our family's reputation with your reckless behavior. You are a servant in this household, and you will obey my rules, whether you like it or not!"
The two women glared at each other, the tension in the room thick enough to be cut with a knife. Carla knew she was treading on dangerous ground, but the promise of a life beyond the castle walls had ignited a spark within her that refused to be extinguished.
Carla's heart raced with determination as she stood up to her stepmother. "I won't," she said, her voice firm despite the trembling of her hands. "I won't spend the rest of my life serving you and my stepsisters. Damian has offered me a chance at a better life, and I intend to take it."
Lady Tremaine's expression darkened, her fingers clenching into fists at her sides. "You insolent girl!" she spat. "You will do as I say, or you will face the consequences. Do you understand?"
Carla squared her shoulders, her eyes burning with a newfound determination. "No, stepmother. I'm done obeying you. Damian will come and take me soon, and we're leaving this place for good."
With that, Carla turned on her heel and stormed out of the dining room, the sound of her stepmother's furious shouts echoing in her wake. She knew she was taking a tremendous risk, but the promise of freedom was worth it. Damian had offered her a chance at a life beyond the castle walls, and Carla was determined to seize it, no matter the cost.
As she ran up the stairs, Carla's mind raced with thoughts of Damian and the life they would build together. She knew it wouldn't be easy, but she was ready to face any challenge as long as it meant escaping the tyranny of her stepmother's rule.
Reaching her room, Carla quickly grabbed a small bag and began to pack, her hands shaking with excitement and fear. She knew she had to be prepared, for she had no idea when Damian would come for her.
Just as she finished packing, Carla heard the sound of horses' hooves outside. Her heart skipped a beat as she rushed to the window, her eyes scanning the courtyard below.
And then, she saw him. Damian, sitting astride a magnificent black stallion, his eyes fixed on her window. He raised a hand, and Carla's heart soared.
It was time to leave. Time to start a new life, free from the shackles of her stepmother's cruelty. With a sense of liberation, Carla turned and ran from the room, down the stairs, and out into the bright, new world beyond.
She rushed towards the door, which was now the only gate between her new life and her old life. Who would have thought that all those years of suffering would surely come to an end?
Carla stretched forth her hand towards the door, ready to break free from reality, or so she thought.
Carla's heart sank as she reached for the door, only to find it locked from the outside. She rattled the handle, panic rising in her chest.
"No, no, this can't be happening!" she cried, her voice trembling. Carla hurried back to the window, desperately searching for any sign of Damian. But the courtyard below was empty, the horses and his carriage nowhere to be seen.
"Damian, where are you?" Carla whispered, her eyes brimming with tears. She knew her stepmother had seen her fraternizing with Damian and had likely ordered the servants to lock her in her room, thwarting her plans of escape.
Carla felt her heart sink as the realization dawned on her. Her stepmother had anticipated her attempt to flee and had taken measures to ensure that she remained trapped within the confines of the castle. The freedom she had so desperately craved was once again beyond her reach, and the weight of her captivity threatened to crush her.
Overwhelmed by a sense of hopelessness, Carla sank to the floor, her skirts pooling around her. Tears streamed down her cheeks as she grappled with the harsh reality of her situation. The dreams of a life with Damian, of escaping the tyranny of her stepmother, had been so close, only to be shattered in an instant.
Carla's mind raced, searching for any glimmer of hope, any possible avenue of escape. But the room felt like a prison, the walls closing in around her, mocking her failed attempt at freedom. She had dared to dream, to hope, only to be cruelly reminded of her station as a servant, bound to the whims and cruelty of her stepmother.
