I
know I shouldn’t answer, but I do want to. It’s only Ethan’s look which
dissuades me. He waves to me, not to insist, and declares the subject is closed
and that I will remain the head of the team. To say I love him in this moment
would be an understatement.
As
soon as the meeting is over, I start to head out. Paul’s voice stops me.
“Arianna?”
“Yes.
Is there something else? Any other accusations?”
His
look darkens, and for a brief moment I hope he will say he trusts me, that he
knows I could never have done such a thing, but no. His next words show me I’m
deluding myself.
“Don’t
forget you have to keep me informed of everything.”
“We’ll
see. As you know, I like playing with fire. Maybe I’ll risk going against your
