It was a Sunday morning, and Ada just woke up about half an hour ago. She’s about to have her first sip of brewed coffee when she heard a faint pounding on the door. A crease on her forehead formed as she tried to suppress her early irritation. She huffed as she frustratingly got up from her comfortable slouching on one of the chairs of their wooden dining table and stomped her way to the main door.
Her face instantly went sour as she saw Reynan outside. What an excellent way to ruin a beautiful day. She took a couple of steps outside and slightly closed the door behind her so he wouldn’t see a thing inside.
“What makes you think you’re welcome here?” Ada snapped at the taunting figure of a man standing in the doorway of their humble abode. It was a breezy day, and the wind suddenly huffed disrespectfully right on her face, carrying an abundant amount of dust, soil, and whatsoever that made both of her eyes twitch in brief prickle as unknown particles poked their bareness. She instantly rubbed her eyes with her right forearm.
As soon as she was finished with her predicament, she saw a blank expression on the disfigured face of her greatest foe as he towered over her. There’s something different about him today. Was it because he’s not wearing his usual scornful smirk?
“Are you doing well, my lady?” Reynan uttered flatly. She saw him glanced inside their house as if he’s keeping tabs on someone. Her eyes narrowed as she realized that he had just given her a new title, and she was pretty surprised how it didn’t sound like an insult.
However, she knew exactly what this man is doing outside their house today. She chuckled at him. “This establishment is too inferior to let a noble as*hole like you in. We wouldn’t want to disgrace your unsullied reputation as the greatest as*wipe in history, señor,” Ada lambasted him as her right brow reached its highest peak.
Reynan burst into hysterical laughter, and it was too vile to look at. It was a shame that his face wasn’t cooperating with his crazed display of happiness. Ada stared at him as she couldn’t shake off the uneasiness that made her quiver a bit.
She knew Ni’mula could be listening to their conversation from somewhere, and she badly needed her help to shove this crazy man’s a*s off of their house right now. She lightly took a step back so he wouldn’t notice the uneasiness building inside her.
He went back to being oddly serious as if he saw through her display of discomfort. He rubbed his temple, probably thinking of what to say next. “I know nothing about your relationship with this man, but I think I finally got something right,” Reynan muttered coldly. Her brows furrowed upon his statement.
What is this guy talking about?
“Why did you come here, Reynan?” she questioned him, pretending she doesn’t know what he came for, or maybe, she really doesn’t know.
It took him a couple of minutes to answer her question. “I’ve waited for a long time. And now, I’ve come to take back what’s mine.”
A surge of weird distress rose inside her. She had been screaming in her thoughts so Ni’mula could come and save her from this awkward situation. However, the old woman couldn’t seem to hear her today. She’s quite sure that she had seen Ni’mula got out of their backdoor, probably tending to her vegetables in their backyard.
Then, an eerie smile formed on Reynan’s lips before he began to speak. “She's not going to hear you,” he informed her, and it obviously sounded like a threat. She’s officially freaking out right now. He said it clearly as if he knew that she’d been telepathically attempting to call for help. Who in the hell was this man? What in the hell was this man? It’s all clear to her that this guy in front of her wasn’t Reynan.
“Go home, Reynan. We’re closed today,” she muttered, voice croaking. She hoped he wouldn’t notice that she’s excusing herself from him.
Just as she was about to turn her back on him, he grabbed and squeezed her arm. Then he shoved her on the wall, inches away from the door. She felt numb the instant he touched her, so she didn’t feel the pain when her back hit the wall. She held her breath and got scared for her life. This was utterly different from his usual lousy pranks. She looked into his eyes and saw something— something evil lurking inside him. He then gripped her neck with his free hand and started to choke her. It was either he was too strong, or she was just too weak, but she couldn’t seem to remove his hand that was strangling her.
Her sight started to grow hazy as she tried to call his name. “Reynan...” She hopes the real Reynan would hear her as she tried freeing herself from his powerful grasp. “Please…” she uttered before she ran out of breath.

Reynan returned to his senses and was shocked to find his hand wringing the neck of an unconscious Ada. He instantly removed his grip from her, that her body dropped loudly on the ground.
“F*ck!” He let out a scream after realizing what he had just done. He ran his hands on his head, trying to think of what he should do. And, when he heard incoming footsteps, he panicked and ran as quickly as he can to save himself from the grave misunderstanding that was about to come.
He was crying as he hailed a cab to get home. He just killed Ada. No, it wasn’t him. He can never kill someone! But who would believe him once they saw his fingerprints all over her? Maybe his father could help him. He was sobbing until he reached their home. However, his father wasn’t there, as usual. He felt helpless. He was already dumb and weak, and now he’s about to rot in jail for the rest of his life. What will his father say?
He drew his curtain close, afraid that the police officers were already swarming their house. What should he do? Should he run away? Should he turn himself in? Or, should he just sleep it off and let things settle on their own, regardless of the outcome? Maybe, just maybe, he’d wake up later and find that this was all just a part of a vivid dream.
