I don’t expect you to understand such an assertion straight away.
It’s clear that a snipe isn’t a dog, but a bird, yet every hunter knows that hunting snipe without a dog is tantamount to celebrating a wedding without music.
So if you want to discuss snipe, you must first discuss dogs, for without a setting dog you won’t even see a snipe, let alone eat one.
But first, the... snipe.
Snipe are small marsh birds, grey with white feathers on their belly, very swift, with a very long bill and long legs; they break cover with a characteristic cry and fly off in crazy zig-zags, as if they’ve had a good stiff drink before taking off.
