Chapter 3 Lilura -
Tyr had already left by the time I woke up. He had been doing that a lot lately. He left without notice and would return randomly. This started after the Fae boy, Robin had pleaded for Tyr’s help.
I was in my garden harvesting some vegetables when Eva called. When she told me about the zombie, I was surprised but also excited about anything to keep me distracted. As I was heading back inside Tyr stood in the doorway of my back door that led to my kitchen. He was dressed in a t-shirt and jeans, clothes I had bought him to fit in more in the mortal world.
“You look beautiful today.” He said with a smile. I frowned as I pushed past him into the house. He followed me into the living room.
“You’re mad at me.” He stated instead of asked.
I spun to face him, “Of course I’m mad at you. You keep coming and going whenever you please without so much as a note or a word goodbye.” I said.
“I’m sorry Lilura, things are much more dire in Faerie than I thought,” Tyr explained but I wouldn’t be persuaded.
“You knew they would be. Let the King handle it. That’s his job, isn’t it? Plus, I thought you were banned from court.” I said.
“The King is on the battlefield. He has left those who are not fighting to fend for themselves. Someone has to be there to help those people.” Tyr replied.
“Look not to be insensitive to your people, but I really don’t care. And I don’t have time for faerie politics right now. Eva and Kodan found a zombie and I need to help them to take care of it. You’re welcome to come with but obviously, you have much more important things to do than to be with me.” I snapped. Tyr looked confused, then enraged.
“You’re right, I do have more important things to do than to f**k around with you and your friends.” He snarled back. I had never heard Tyr really cuss before and it startled me. Before I could get another word in, he had already strode out of the room.
I wiped away my angry tears and headed out to Knoxville. Since I would already be in the city, I texted Erika about meeting and doing some training. When my emotions ran high my magic got out of my control. Lately, it had been particularly wild and untamed.
When I arrived at the address Eva had texted me, I parked half a block away as I saw that the human family was loading their car and getting ready to leave. Once they drove away, I speed-walked around the house to the backyard where I found Eva and Kodan standing by a bush.
“Where is this Zombie?” I asked excitedly.
Eva pointed over the fence and I looked over.
“Whoa, that really is a zombie!” I exclaimed. “What do you want to do with it?”
“We should probably kill it. I told the family that lives here a serial killer dressed as a zombie is on the loose. I’ll tell them it was just a kid once we collect evidence and get rid of the zombie.” Kodan told me.
“Okay well, this shouldn’t be too difficult,” I said.
I figured I would just do a spell to return the zombie back to the earth. I wrote sigils for nature and decay in the air with my hands, while chanting softly under my breath. When I reached the end of the spell, I felt a shocking pulse of energy through me. Instead of the earth opening up to receive the zombies’ body, a white-hot flash shot through my fingers and vaporized the zombie making it explode into dust. I coughed as the dust filled the air around us in a foul-smelling cloud. I was shocked that my spell had gone awry but the other two didn’t seem to notice, so I pretended as if it was part of my plan all along.
I looked at my watch and noticed that I had five minutes until I had to meet with Erika.
“I have to leave. I have to train with Erika. I’ll see you two later.” I told them before hurrying back to my truck. I took a calming breath once in the cab and got on the main road.
I had been meeting with Erika for two weeks now. We met at an old empty warehouse in the industrial district of Knoxville. It had few human witnesses and less things to damage. The past two training sessions we had moved from calming exercises to actually pushing myself to see what type of magic I could conjure. Never in my life had I let myself be so free with my Magic. It was both terrifying and liberating.
Erika was already waiting for me in a single chair set in the middle of the empty warehouse. She was dressed in a tailored white pantsuit and as always, she looked effortlessly stunning and powerful.
“It is a pleasure to see you again Lilura.” She purred.
“Same.” Was all I said.
“You seem tense, darling little witch. What is troubling you?” She asked.
“There was a zombie in the southern part of the city. I got rid of it.” I said. Erika’s perfectly sculpted eyebrow shot up curiously.
“A zombie? Interesting. How does that relate to what you are feeling now?” She inquired.
“I did a spell. I just wanted the zombie to be embraced by the earth, but instead I…” I trailed off, “I turned it to dust.”
“Your magic is controlling you and you are not controlling it,” Erika said.
“I know. That’s why I need your help. I’ve never felt so lost or out of control.” I mumbled.
“Then let us get started and not waste any more time.” Erika declared getting to her feet.
The rest of the afternoon was spent channeling my energy into different small spells and working my way up to large spells. The final one I flooded the entire warehouse and then pooled the water into a sphere that I held in the air before I lost energy and the ball of water came crashing down on me. I ended the training session exhausted and soaked.
“So now we know you have great control over water. Let us stop there for today.” Erika announced. I was relieved because any more magic and I felt I might be ripped apart. I nodded in agreement. I said my goodbye to Erika and went back to my truck. I almost fell asleep on the drive home and knew I pushed it too hard today.
When I was finally parked, I noticed that the lights in my house were on. When I was inside, there was a fine dinner set on my dining table and Tyr stood in the middle of the room looking both anxious and lovingly at me.
“I made you dinner. As a truce. I know I have been absent lately but — “he stopped once he took a good look at me. I was so exhausted that I couldn’t keep my emotions under control. I started to sob. He rushed over to me and wrapped me in his arms.
“My love. You’re exhausted, what happened?” Tyr pulled back to look at me, he cupped my face in his hands.
“I was training with Erika. I just wore myself out. And I feel horrible for how I treated you earlier. I just feel so angry and lost and I don’t know what is going on with me.” I cried. He kissed my forehead and held me for a long time until I had calmed down.
“I’m here for you now Lilura. I am so sorry that I haven’t been these last few days.” He apologized. I had already forgiven him, and I only hoped I was forgiven as well. I leaned up and kissed him. I felt the pull of his life force and I felt it move through me. Tyr was transferring some of his energy to me. After our kiss, I felt lighter and a bit more alert.
“I can’t believe you made dinner,” I said pulling away and taking a seat at the table. Tyr sat across from me and smiled.
“Yes, well some of it is faerie food because I couldn’t quite figure out the human cuisine.” He explained.
“Is it safe for me to eat?” I asked.
“Yes, it is perfectly safe for you to eat. I checked already.” He said. Reassured I started piling my plate with unfamiliar meats and fruits. I didn’t realize how hungry I was until I started shoveling food into my mouth like an animal. Tyr did the same and we had finished most of the food.
Some of my energy restored I got out of my seat and went to sit on Tyr’s lap. His arms wrapped around me. I rested my head on his shoulder.
“Thank you for dinner,” I said.
“You’re welcome.” He said against my hair. I listened to his breathing and the rushing of blood through his veins. I sniffed his neck. The smell of woods and citrus. Such an intoxicating and familiar smell.
I began to kiss his neck lightly. I moved up his neck to his jaw where I dotted more kisses. Tyr shifted in the chair as I could tell his energy was building. Finally, I reached his mouth. His hands went in my hair tangling his fingers in my red curls. My hands cupped his face and we kissed for a long time.
I stood up and pulled Tyr to his feet. I led him to my bedroom. As we had done countless times now, we tore each other’s clothes off. I pushed Tyr down on to the mattress and climbed on top of his straddling him. I lowered myself onto him. His right hand gripped my hip tightly as I began to move. First slowly, and teasingly, then faster as the pleasure started to build at the point where our bodies met. Tyr leaned up and kissed me feverishly as I increased my pace. Tyr grabbed at my breast but at my neck. I had reached my peak and couldn’t hold on any longer. As I came, energy surged through me and all the lights in the house sparked with blinding light and then shattered. Tyr found his release at the same time the lights went out. We found ourselves breathing heavily in the dark.
“That was unexpected.” He breathed.
“Yeah. That’s never happened before.” I said. We were still tangled together. I rolled off of him and got up to search for candles. Luckily as a witch, candles were in abundance. I set several candles about the bedroom and blew on them to start the flames.
Finally, with some illumination in the room, I was able to see Tyr. He was stretched out on my bed naked watching me as I lit a few more candles. I crawled into bed next to him. I gently glided my fingers across his bare chest.
“Your magic is coming out more and more,” Tyr noted.
“I know. I don’t feel like I have control over it right now.” I said.
“What do you think is causing it?” He asked. I thought for a long moment still caressing his skin softly.
“I don’t know. But I need to find a way to control it before it gets too dangerous.” I said. At that moment I wanted to tell him what Erika had told me about being immortal. But I still couldn’t do it. I was still trying to figure it out for myself, and I needed to do that before I told anyone. Even Tyr and Eva.
I fell asleep to the relaxing sound of Tyr’s breathing and the wind howling outside the bedroom window. The next morning, I awoke Tyr was still there and he was spooning me. His warm body fighting off the cold feeling in my bones. I groaned as I fought to stay asleep a bit longer, but it was no use. I turned to look over my shoulder at Tyr. He was deep asleep, his face serene and expressionless. I lightly kissed his forehead before carefully slipping out of bed. I pulled on an old blue nightgown and went to the living room. I was about to make tea in the kitchen when I saw a woman out of my front window.
She was tall and thick, and her short red hair was spiked up today. Rita, a witch from my coven had come to pay a visit.
I grabbed a thick jacket out of the coat closet and pulled it on before I went outside to meet her to avoid having her in the house. We met on the front porch.
“Good Morning Rita, what can I do for you today?” I asked.
“You didn’t show up for Yule yesterday.” She said. I had completely forgotten about our meeting to celebrate the turning of the seasons.
“Oh no! It must have completely slipped my mind. I can’t believe I forgot.” I said.
“You’ve been forgetting a lot of things Lilura. You haven’t been at the weekly meetings either. You’re supposed to be leading this coven and you haven’t even been there.” Rita told me.
“I know. There has just been a lot going on with me.” I replied.
“Lilura, I’m sure things haven’t been easy for you, but if you can’t lead this coven you need to let me know. Florence is already making a play to take over. You and I both know that that can’t happen.” Rita said.
“I should be there, but I don’t think I can do that right now. I’m not stable. But I also know that Florence can’t take over. I will announce stepping down as high priestess, but Rita would you be interested in taking over?” I asked her. Rita looked stunned at first.
“Well I never thought about it, but now that you mention it, I think I would do well at it,” Rita said, determined. I smiled at her.
“You would be great at it Rita. If anyone can take my place it would and should be you.” I told her; I rested my hand on her shoulder.
“I will need your help getting started,” Rita said.
“Of course. I can start prepping you starting tomorrow.” I suggested.
“That would be good. Then we can make our announcement.” Rita agreed.
“Okay. I’m glad you will be taking over. It’s a great burden off of me.” I said relieved. And I did feel lighter. I had been juggling too much lately and this was one less thing to worry about.
The front door opened, and Tyr stood in the doorway wearing only a pair of jeans that were unbuttoned and hanging low on his waist.
“Hello there!” Rita greeted with an enthusiastic wave and a huge grin.
“Hi,” Tyr said hesitantly.
“Tyr why don’t you go back inside and let me, and Rita finish up our conversation,” I suggested.
“Alright, I will see you inside,” Tyr said before shutting the door. I turned back to Rita who was giving me a wide-eyed look.
“I see what you have been busy with. A faerie. A very very sexy faerie.” Rita trailed off.
“Okay okay keeps it in your pants, Rita.” I laughed.
“Ha! I’m not the one who needs to keep it in their pants.” Rita retorted.
“Well, it’s not been simple. He’s a high elf and he’s had his own complicated business going on. He is constantly back and forth from here to faerie. I knew it would be difficult being together, but it’s been especially hard lately.” I confessed.
“As hot as he is, you need to have a come to Jesus with the boy. Tell him he can ride two horses with one ass.” Rita said.
“I’ll see how that goes over.” I smiled.
“It works better than you think,” Rita said seriously. “Well I better go. I’ll be back here tomorrow evening.”
“Okay, goodbye Rita.” I hugged her quickly and watched her go.
Back inside Tyr handed me a hot cup of coffee to warm me up after my cold talk outside.
“What were you two talking about?” He asked taking a sip of tea from his own mug.
“She is going to take over the coven for me. I have been neglecting it for a while and it’s time for me to step down.” I said.
“I’m sorry that you have felt so overwhelmed lately my love. If I can help you, you know that I will.” He said caressing my face with his warm hand.
I gave him a small smile, “I know. If I need your help, I will let you know.”
I kissed him quickly and we finished our tea on the couch.
