She reached up and pulled the feather out of her arm, dropping it when it started to eat through her hand. Damon refused to let fear overwhelm him as, for the first time since he was a child, he was truly terrified. The rotting corpse that was Misery hissed at something behind and above him before melding back into the smoky wall. The smoke released, slithering up the wall of the abandoned building and slipping into one of the broken windows of an upper floor. The heavy breathing of the demon suddenly vanished and Damon mentally sighed in relief.
