‘We’re where?’ ‘I thought you said you know the Bones,’ Nanda said, inexplicably kneeling down on the ground. ‘I do. I mean, I know where we are, but I don’t see an Oracle.’ Nanda didn’t answer. She knocked three times on the ground, and the noise resounded dully as though she’d struck something made of wood. She sat back and waited. Konrad waited too, listening for approaching footsteps. Instead, a door opened in the earth. Nanda smiled and stood up. Evidently there were some stairs beneath the door, for she climbed steadily downwards until she disappeared from sight. ‘Come on, Konrad,’ she called back to him, her voice echoing oddly.
