Xavier stormed into the security room with two agents closely following him behind. He plopped down on his maroon reclining chair, facing the cameras. He glanced over at the cam for Mariana who was fast asleep and heavily sedated.
"Where's the young agent who we got from that restaurant?" He questioned.
"Do you mean Micah?" One of them asked.
"Yeah, yeah him," he trailed off. "Bring him to me immediately."
When one of the agents left to go fetch Micah, Xavier chugged down the beer from his glass and slammed it down, causing the table to rattle and his eyes to redden in fury.
Now that his sister was out of the way, his plan was finally falling into action. With Mariana in his possession, he can finally get revenge on that dreaded wretch, that wretch who the mere thought of, made his insides burn with vengeance.
He shook his head violently to get the thought of her out of his mind. She was long gone but the fire of fury in his heart was far from gone.
He turned his head, startled at the sudden slam of the door, where Micah walked in with an agent tight on his grip. Micah slapped the hand away and turned to face Xavier.
"You wanted me?" He simply said. He was light-skinned and 6 feet tall with broad shoulders, full pink lips, hazel eyes, and Afro- curly hair.
"Come here," he beckoned which Micah cams closed. Xavier directed his attention towards Mariana's cam.
"See there? That's my little niece and she's about your age. All you need to do is watch her for me and make sure she doesn't try and escape, okay?"
Micah gulped with hesitation but had a look of disgust plastered on his face. After what he just witnessed earlier, he felt like he couldn't stand another second working with Xavier who was a cruel, vile, and heartless person who just used people to his pleasure and then dumps them when they became useless. The things he did made him sick, especially to his own blood.
"Sure," he finally murmured, although he had something else in mind.
"Good." Xavier then pulled out a folder and threw it into Micah's hands. "That's everything you need to know now get out of my sight."
Micah discreetly rolled his eyes and proceeded towards the door.
"Oh and Micah."
"Yeah?"
"Try and use your gun this time, and try and shoot properly."
"Yeah yeah, sure," he said, knowing full well he wasn't going to have that weapon anywhere near him.
"And remember, if you fail me, I'll do the same thing to your sweet, innocent little sister that I did to my niece." His words were laced with venom as he faced Micah with the widest smirk and his arms crossed.
His words made Micah clenched his fists in burning anger as his fingers slightly shook the paper. How dare he threaten his sister!
He wanted to pin Xavier to the ground and beat him till he took back his words, but he restrained himself because he knew he wouldn't be able to win.
Once he was out of the room, he ran through Mariana's files while making his way to where she was saying, all while he was figuring out a way to help her.
****
A burning light pierced Mariana's eyelids which caused them to open. She hissed pain and immediately closed them as she regained consciousness.
Mariana found herself unable to move as she was met with an excruciating wave of pain. Her arms were heavily sore and felt like they had been stabbed with pins and needles. Her head was whirling around in dizziness. She tried to soothe it but it proved to be in vain.
Mariana tried to prop herself up with her arms, but screamed in agony and allowed them to slide back down slowly while she clenched her teeth.
She tried again and after a few minutes, she's was finally in a sitting position.
Mariana decided to open her eyes and she realized she was in a hospital room.
There was a window that led to the outside world but it was covered by blinds. She gazed down at her arms which had colored wires punctured through them. She also realized she wasn't in her own clothes anymore, but instead had a long greenish gown on.
The only relief she felt was that she still had her underwear on but something felt different.
Her panties felt torn and her bra felt loose.
She decided that she'll worry about that later because right now, the pain that ran through her veins was trapping her down like vines around a tree. It suffocated her as she started to choke.
She tried to move her body but her struggle was making her throat tighten even harder inside her chest.
Feeling like she was rapidly running out of options, she broke down in frustration.
"Why am I here!?" She managed to scream in her anguish.
"You're in the surgery room."
Mariana gasped out loud. Her hairs stood up in fear as she wasn't expecting an actual reply. "Who's there?"
Micah was stood in the corner but then came into the light. Mariana noticed he was dressed like all the others but his smile was warm and full of friendliness.
"Hello, I'm Micah, your bodyguard."
"Are you gonna point a gun at me too?"
"No, I'm not like the others."
"Prove it."
He pulled the top part of his suit up, revealing his torso and six-pack as he spun around, she could see he had no weapons on him.
"Hmm okay."
He pulled his suit down and came closer to her.
"So what's your name?" He asked.
"I'm Mariana."
"Wow, that name is beautiful."
"Oh thank you."
He smiled and kissed her hand.
What a gentleman.
"Do you know if my mother and siblings are okay?" Mariana asked with a spark of hope glimmering in her eyes.
His warm smile soon turned into a melancholy one. His eyes cast down and backed away from her bed.
"I'm sorry Mariana I can't tell you."
"What? Why not?!"
"Um, I don't exactly know how to."
Her mouth was agape as only one thing could come to mind at what he was talking about.
Could Xavier really be that heartless?
"Okay," She finally said.
"Do you remember what happened last night?" Micah asked.
"No...why?"
"Oh, he must've drugged you badly."
"What happened?!"
"Well, the boss put you in a drowsy state then forced himself upon you in front of your mother."
"What?!?!"
"Yes, she couldn't do anything because she was chained inside a glass box and you were outside."
Mariana's stared at him numbly while feeling her heartache and break into pieces. Not only did her uncle r**e her but also in front of my mother.
"I'm sorry Mariana..."
She didn't say anything but stared ahead numbly as she felt her tears run down her cheeks freely. Her chest stung and cried out in pain as her heart bled out, unable to be filled and a hollow void is all that is left. The reality of her never having her family again froze her feelings and all she felt was coldness glazed across her skin. The warmth from her ran away as the love for her uncle died like a forgotten memory.
She wished she was never related to Xavier. She wished she never knew him. He had just become a monster and a beast that never deserved such a loving sister like her mother. He didn't deserve her at all.
She wondered what they did to deserve this treatment because he never used to be like this...
"Mariana your uncle is here!" Mom called out.
Mariana came running down the stairs, giggling in excitement.
When she reached the living room, her Uncle Xavier was standing at the front door.
"Hi, Uncle Xavier!" She squealed and ran into his hug.
"Hello, my Mariana!" He bent down and gave her a bear hug.
"Did you bring anything for me?" She asked innocently.
"Sorry honey, not today."
"Awwww," She held her down.
He carried her into the living room and sat down on the couch. He used one hand and pulled out a ruby heart-shaped necklace.
"Surprise my baby girl!"
"Eeeeeek! Thank you!" She screamed.
He put it around her neck and the ruby was shining brightly.
"I love it!"
"I love it too and it suits you."
"Thank you, Uncle!" She hugged him tightly.
"Your welcome honey."
Mariana was snapped out of her reverie as she heard the creak of the door opening. She looked up and Xavier came towards her with a tray of food. She growled as her glare at his presence was full of hate. She couldn't believe the kind of monster he had turned into.
He put the tray on the cart beside her and snarled at how she was staring at him.
"You better stop looking at me like that Mariana or I'll just throw this whole thing in the trash can."
"It's probably got more drugs in it anyway," She mumbled under her breath.
"What did you just say to me?" He came closer until he peered at her face, daring her to repeat her sentence.
Mariana didn't say anything or even turned to look at him. Her heart was too weighed down with pain and betrayal.
"You better watch your mouth young lady, if you know what's good for you," Xavier warned.
Mariana still didn't say anything but kissed her teeth at him in disgust.
Xavier sighed and finally backed away.
"I'll deal with you later, I have better business to take care of."
He started walking towards the door and before leaving, he turned towards Micah. "Make sure she doesn't leave, I'll need her for later."
"Yes sir," Micah replied.
"Good," He nodded in approval at him and gave Mariana one final glare before leaving.
"Finally," She exhaled and then turned to face Micah.
"So what am I doing in this surgery room thing?"
"Well, the boss only needs you for a couple of days and then he's completely done with you."
"So what does it have to do with this?" She asked, pointing at the wires.
"He's injected a virus into you that gradually kills you over the next few days."
"What?!"
Why is this happening to me? She thought.
"Yeah, I'm sorry you have to hear this Mariana."
Mariana really couldn't believe this was happening to her. Why was Xavier doing all this? Was all this because they couldn't meet his little deadline?!
Mariana couldn't even comprehend how she feeling right now. She just lost her whole family, the uncle who she adored so much in her childhood r***d her, and now she going to die in a couple of days.
She felt like hope had left her in the enveloping darkness of her suffering like she was stuck in a deep pit with nowhere to go, and no one to rely on.
She was on her own.
Suddenly, a hand wrapped around her, patting her on the back like how a friend comforts another.
"I have an idea," Micah said.
She sniffed and looked up at him with her red puffy eyes.
"I can get you out of here tonight if you want."
"Really?"
"Yes, He really needs you till after midnight so we have time."
Mariana pondered over the idea. She was a bit reluctant as she didn't know him that well yet, but she didn't have that much of a choice since Xavier probably had worse things planned like he was probably going to sell her off or r**e her again and with Micah, she had a 50/50 chance of escaping or something worse happening to her but since she had a virus that was going to kill her in a couple of days, she really had nothing to lose with her family being gone and if she did escape, at least she could spend her final days doing something worthwhile.
So taking a great leap of faith, she agreed.
"Okay."
