Chapter 2

“You didn’t have to be that mean,” I commented, emphasizing the word that. I kicked the dust pile, squatting down as I used the staff of my weapon to balance myself. “They approached us first anyway.” He sighed, dusting his clothes by patting his pants. “I suppose-” my voice faded as I snapped a picture of the mess we made and sent it to the clean-up crew at the management. “I don’t think we were supposed to terminate any of them tonight.” I shut my phone off and walked toward Merry as he finished dusting himself off. “Well if we didn’t terminate them- we would’ve been the one terminated.” He shrugged and we made our way to our car. Then we drove home. We lived together, along with 3 other people also in the management work. It’s much easier for us, plus it’s safer to live in groups, especially in the type of work we do. “How was the bar?” asked Julio, a fire sage, as we walked through the front door and he grabbed something from the fridge. “It was okay,” I answered, taking a seat at the dinner table. I was given a small snack by one of the maids and I thanked them. “‘Okay’ my butt. It was great! This guy came up to us and chatted.” Merry said happily, sitting across from me. “Chatting away when you’re supposed to be scouting the area,” I added, starting to munch on the snack. “I heard you guys terminated a few of them earlier,” Julio mentioned, Leaning against the counter. “Yea, they started following us when we left the bar.” I shrugged. “I have a feeling we will be going back there though.” I finished. “Sam’s Lounge?” chirped Christa, as she walked down the stairs and into the kitchen. “Yea. Because of a certain someone.” I looked at said person. “What!” he whined. “ He was a man in a suit! In a bar! That’s a start of a love story if I’ve ever read one!” he defends himself and I laughed along with the other people in the area. Soon we were chatting about our days. After a while of chatting, we went our separate ways to get ready for bed. I went ahead to my room and used my personal bathroom. When I had finished showering, Merry knocked on the door. “Good night Rose!” he said “Amazing night Merry,” I responded back as I heard his footsteps fade. I took a deep breath and flopped onto my bed. “I hope tomorrow isn’t too eventful.” I hoped, falling asleep as soon as I made myself comfortable. “I can’t believe you trusted me so easily!” he exclaimed with a laugh. “W-why?” was all I could ask as I was trembling from fear. “Your dear father killed so many of my kind. He was practically well known among us. So-” he paused, dropping my father to the floor. I just watched, all I could do was watch. “So it’s only fair we get rid of him now.” he finished, laughing at me. He then started to walk towards me, oh so very slowly but very menacingly. “I actually like you, so I’ll let you live.” he brought his finger to my chin, to force me to look up at him as he smiled down at me. “But if I ever see you again, you are going to end up like your father.” then with a blink of an eye, he was gone. “Rosemary-” I shot up, gasping for air as I looked around my room. “Just a dream,” I muttered, rubbing my forehead. I brought my hand to my chest to feel my necklace still in its rightful place. I held it in my hand for a bit as I calmed down. I took a deep breath and laid back down in the comfort of my bed and actually went to sleep for the rest of the night.
